STOURBRIDGE FC have donated a £2,000 windfall from the FA Community Shield Fund to Mary Stevens Hospice after the Football Association handed Glassboys officials the cash to donate to charity as their reward for reaching the FA Cup First Round Proper stages in 2011/12.

Gary Hackett's men famously beat Plymouth Argyle in a televised replay at the War Memorial Athletic Ground before losing to Stevenage FC in the following round.

Chairman Andy Pountney said: "When we received the letter from The FA reminding us of our charity windfall, the board of directors quickly and unanimously decided to award the money to Mary Stevens Hospice. We had already agreed to host a charity match for them at the ground to help raise vital and much needed funds and we were delighted to be able to help them in this extra way thanks to the Community Shield Fund. The staff and volunteers do such wonderful work and we have built up a good relationship with them over the past few months."

The Mary Stevens Hospice is based locally in the Oldswinford district of Stourbridge. The Hospice provides specialist palliative care to all members of the community of the Dudley Borough and surrounding areas, including parts of South Staffordshire, Wyre Forest, Hereford & Worcester and Sandwell. The Hospice offers specialist palliative care for adults aged 17 onwards who have a non-curative illness such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Parkinson's disease, end stage renal or cardiac disease or HIV/AIDS.

The Football Association Community Shield Fund provides a reward for all clubs who reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup. Clubs are given £2,000 to donate to a nominated charity with the funds generated by August's traditional Community Shield opener to the season. Each year a section of the profits from ticket and programme sales is divided equally among the 124 eligible clubs with the rest going to the official FA Charity Partner - The Teenage Cancer Trust with large donations having also fittingly been made this year to The Bobby Moore Fund and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation as part of The FA's 150th anniversary celebrations in 2013.
