Glassboys Make Three Summer Signings

Glassboys Make Three Summer Signings

Nigel Gregg11 Jun 2013 - 17:54

Former Walsall and Redditch United defender ALEX HICKMAN has become the latest recruit for the Glassboys following hot on the heels of the captures ...

..of veteran midfield man DEAN BENNETT and young full-back RHYS SWETMAN.

The 21-year old Dudley born centre-half started his career with Walsall before joining Redditch United on loan in March 2011. After being released by Walsall that summer he signed for Redditch on a permanent basis. He has impressed for the Worcestershire outfit since then, but he suffered an injury-hit 2012/13 campaign and missed the Worcestershire Senior Cup Final against Stourbridge in April.

RHYS SWETMAN is a 20-year old full-back, who can also play in midfield. He is considered to be an athletic player with plenty of potential. A former Wolves appentice, he spent last season with Market Drayton Town of the Evo-stik League (NPL) Division One South. He had looked bound for Sutton Coldfield Town earlier this summer, but he has now decided to try his luck at the higher level with the Glassboys.

DEAN BENNETT is a vastly experienced central midfield man who can also play at the back. He finished last season 'on loan' with Redditch United from Solihull Moors.

The 35-year old Wolverhampton born player spent the early part of his career with West Bromwich Albion and Bromsgrove Rovers before embarking on a successful stint with Kidderminster Harriers in 1999. He joined Wrexham in July 2004 and then moved to Chester City two years later before returning to Kidderminster - initially on a 3-month loan - in August 2007. He then completed a transfer back to Kidderminster in January 2008. He joined Irish club Dundalk in the summer of 2010 before signing for Solihull Moors in November of the following year.

The following members from last season's squad have also already agreed to remain at Amblecote - Goalkeeper Dean Coleman, defenders Paul Lloyd, Jamie Oliver and Nathan Bennett, midfielders Jordan Fitzpatrick and Drew Canavan plus striker Luke Benbow. Ben Billingham was already contracted to the club for 2013/14.

Talks are still ongoing with other players, including some new targets as boss Gary Hackett looks to finalise his squad in readiness for pre-season training in a few weeks time.
