Despite a second half bombardment, Stourbridge Ladies couldn't overturn a 0-2 half time deficit, meaning visitors Coundon Court take the Championship.

Needing a draw to clinch top spot, the Glassgirls (pictured celebrating promotion and marking the end of a successful season at the end of today's game) began nervously in very blustery conditions. And it was the visitors who made their territorial advantage pay on 25 minutes when a cross was headed in, before doubling their advantage 7 minutes later as a fierce shot found it's way into the corner of the net.

Stourbridge found their feet after regrouping at the break and increasingly pushed Coundon back as the game went on. However, the Glassgirls were indebted to some good goalkeeping and poor finishing to keep themselves in the match on the occasions Coundon broke out.

The final few minutes saw almost constant Glassgirls pressure but the Coundon defence held firm and they ran out worthy winners and Champions.

Despite the disappointment of losing their first League game of the season, and only the second in the last two seasons, in such heart-breaking fashion, it should not detract from a fantastic season which has resulted in a second successive promotion and a place in the Birmingham County Women's League for next term.

The Premier Division will provide a new challenge but, having beaten two top flight outfits in Cup competitions this season, it is one the Ladies can approach with plenty of confidence.
