On a tense afternoon at Top Field, Stourbridge finally secured the point needed to guarantee a play-off semi-final at Chesham United on Tuesday night.

The Glassboys began the game well and took the lead on 15 minutes, when Kayelden Brown flicked on a goal kick from Dean Coleman for Brian Smikle to sprint clear of the home defence and shoot low under Tahj Bell in the home goal.

However, the Canaries refused to roll over and the Glassboys were unable to add a second goal to give themselves breathing space.

The early stages of the second half saw Stourbridge controlling the game, but the atmosphere changed on 66 minutes when a low cross into the Glasboys' penalty area found its way to the unmarked Michael King who beat Dean Coleman from close range to level the scores.

There were chances at either end in the final 20 minutes, plus over six minutes of added time, although neither goalkeeper was forced into a save of any note, and the final whistle was greeted by rapturous applause (and some relief) by the travelling army of over 200 Stourbridge supporters.

We would like to place on record our appreciation to all those supporters who travelled to Hitchin today to give their backing to the team. It may not have been quite as relaxing an afternoon as we would have wished for but we got the end result we were looking for!

With Hungerford Town, the only team able to usurp Stourbridge's play-off place, coming from behind yet again to beat Bideford 2-1, Stourbridge finished in fifth place in the Calor League Premier Division on goal difference.

Third-placed Cambridge City had no trouble holding onto that position with a 5-1 trouncing of Banbury United, whilst St Albans fought out what must have been an equally tense goalless draw at Frome Town to retain fourth spot

The ties are one-legged, and will be played to a conclusion on the night, with extra-time and penalties if required.
