We have received a letter of thanks from Simon Wilkes who raised money at our recent Charity Match for MDS UK...

Simon's letter, which echoes our thoughts, is reproduced below:

Well, what can I say that’s not already been said. A tremendous well-organised day with an amazing turnout & superb amount of monies raised for Mary Stevens Hospice.

I would personally like to thank the two Andys (Messrs Poutney & Bullingham) from Stourbridge FC for letting me get involved with the day. The volunteers from Stourbridge FC made the War Memorial Ground such a superb venue to hold such a brilliant Community Fundraising event, well done Stourbridge FC.

Other thank yous go to Mary Stevens Hospice for letting the Anthony Nolan charity & myself join in with such a great day.

Much credit goes to Matty Webb & Mark Naylor in putting two great teams together & to the Legends from both teams for putting on a great game. It was brilliant to see so many big names from the past turnout for WBA Legends & supporting such great causes. The memorabilia sale was superb & raised an unbelievable amount of monies for the Hospice.

I got involved to raise awareness of stem cell donation. On the day 24 VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE signed up to the Stem Cell Register to potentially be LIFE-SAVERS. I can’t thank you people enough, that is such a priceless thing to do, me personally knowing people waiting for that MATCH to save their life.

We also raised £559.30 for Anthony Nolan on the day with the superb help of Hannah Booth & Courtney Overfield running the target goal & my “rock” of a wife, Mrs Wilkes, in running the bouncy castle. Also my lads, Ben & Olly Wilkes, were a tremendous help in selling raffle tickets for the Hospice, assisting on the day & talking to friends to sign up for the Stem Cell Register. You did me proud.

For my five-minute “cameo dive” appearance I have managed to raise £391.25 so far for the MDS Support Group on http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SimonWilkes1

An unsung hero yet again was my old mate Ian “Tommo” Thomas who proved to be the best DJ / PA around with his timely announcements & superb tunes, you are a true star my mate x.

Thank you to Black Country radio for allowing me to appear on air to explain my own condition & how people could give samples at the event.

I could go on forever with the thank yous but to all you lovely friends & family who got involved in some way, whether it be playing (Lee Booth), helping on the day (Ellis Fullwood, Garth GVR Rawlins & others already mentioned), to all those kind-hearted friends who donated monies & supported in making it such a great day, I THANK YOU.
