A mixed Stourbridge line-up were given a good work out by a new look Cradley Town side put together by one-time Glassboy Russell Dodd with former Stourbridge striker Les Palmer also at Beeches View Avenue as coach, while ex- Stourbridge defender Stuart Hamilton was included in the home line-up as well.
Stourbridge had youth team goalkeeper Ryan Greenwood between the sticks and he can take great satisfaction from the game, making three or four good stops - particularly in the second half. Triallists Rob Whiteley and Adam Meacham played in defence alongside Craig Slater and Jamie Oliver, while another triallist Martin Hill was named in midfield with Scott Sumner later featuring from the bench.

The Glassboys cruised to victory at West Midlands Premier Division newcomers Stafford Town with triallist Kyle Brady and Leon Broadhurst both netting twice for Gary Hackett's side. Jon Ford also donned the goalkeeping gloves for the night with Lewis Solly and Sam Pearson both unavailable. On a good playing surface at the Evans Park ground that was only opened in March, an attack minded Stourbridge starting line-up quickly seized the initiative and Leon Broadhurst opened the scoring with a low 25-yard shot with just ten minutes gone. Three minutes later Kyle Brady added a second with a cool low finish after being put through before Jon Ford was called into action for the first time in the 25th minute, but he was well positioned to save a header following a long throw into the box. Dave Plinston made it three on the half-hour mark as he beat the offside trap to fasten onto a through ball from Ben Billingham before lobbing the home goalkeeper. Eleven minutes later a powerful header forward from Billingham enabled Brady to race through again and he calmly rounded the keeper to score and two minutes before the break Broadhurst curled a superb shot into the keeper's top right hand corner of the net after good work from Sam Rock to put us 5-0 in-front at half-time.
Stourbridge continued to press after the re-start and Ryan Rowe grabbed the sixth goal fifteen minutes into the second period, tucking home a low shot after being slipped through by Rock. The Glassboys made a triple substitution at this point with James Cooper, Aaron Lloyd and Paul Lloyd entering proceedings and after Cooper was denied by a good save on 76 minutes, Aaron Lloyd struck to make it 7 - 0 three minutes later as he was put clear by Broadhurst and the young forward slotted the ball low past the keeper. Moments later though Stafford grabbed a consolation goal when Nathan Bennett was closed down by Sam Hollinsworth who blocked his clearance and then latched onto the rebound to lob the ball over the head of Jon Ford.
Stourbridge: Ford, Rock, D. Jones, Slater, Plinston, Bennett, Brady, Dovey, Rowe, Billingham, Broadhurst
Subs: Coooper (for Rock 61 mins), A. Lloyd (for Dovey 61 mins), P. Lloyd (for Slater 61 mins) |
