Five star showing
Young Academy side defeat Lichfield City with style as they run out 5 - 1 victors.
Lee Mills young side put into practise the free flowing football philosophy that runs through the entire Dudley College Football Programme in this first pre season match. A number of holidays meant four of Simon King & Ade Potters U16s came in to the squad with Mills mindful of another match on Wednesday.
Straight from kick off the lads showed composure and real quality playing out from the back even with a high press from Lichfield. Kyle Peters and Ali Lockhead giving great width for keeper Alex Elcock to keep finding. Skipper for the day Dan Hadley dealt with any physical presence and formed a really good partnership with Isaac Hoult.
A couple of half chances fell to u16 Harvey and Liam Smith before 2nd year Carrick Chaney opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a cross / shot with his right foot. This seemed to breathe even more confidence in to the players as Myles Edwards and Christian Obeng started to dominate midfield along with another u16 Jamie. Myles set the 2nd goal up with a brilliant through ball that Chris took in his stride before putting the keeper on his backside and stroking the ball home.
Lichfield got one back with probably our only mistake of the half. Defending a free kick too deeply led to a scrambled clearance with the ball creeping in our far corner. A couple of changes saw Alex Clarke and Sean Rowley enter the play. Clarky set the 3rd up with a delightful ball over the top to the ever willing runner in Liam Smith. A lovely first touch and lob over the on-rushing keeper made it 3-1.
Second half saw Donald Egbon replace Issac and Jaiden & Tom Bedall come in to central areas. We started well with Donald and Dan controlling the game from the back. Jaiden Martin showed some lovely neat touches in the 10 role and u16s Farid & Ethan slotted in well linking play. Lichfield worked hard to close us but we continued to work the ball with patience and were a real threat with the pace of Christian and then Harvey who re-entered play.
The fourth goal was scored by Ethan but down to fantastic jinking run from Liam Smith who beat two players and squared the ball for a relatively easy finish. We continued to threaten from both flanks with Ali Lockhead and Sean Rowley really strong down the left. It was down this side that the final goal came. A lovely passing move saw CB Isaac Hoult in the left channel out run the fullback and cross for Ethan to fire home his 2nd and the 5th for the team.
A really positive start - great attitude shown and all with three of the second years away on holiday.
