MATCH PREVIEW

Following hot on recent road trips to Biggleswade, St Neots and Leiston, we are on our travels once more on Tuesday night, but at least it's a destination rather closer to home as we make the hour long journey to Banbury United.

It's a familiar venue to most as the two sides have met on many, many occasions in the past with the most recent meetings coming in the 2013/14 season prior to our transfer to the Northern Premier League.

That particular campaign saw Stourbridge lose at Chesham United in the play-off semi-finals after finishing 5th thanks to a 3-point deduction for Poole Town, while Banbury finished 19th (of 23), but ten points clear of the relegation places.

Stourbridge won all three meetings that season. A 3 - 2 home win in the FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round was followed by a league double being completed in comprehensive fashion. A 4 - 0 win at Banbury in late February was followed by a 5 - 0 victory at Amblecote on Easter Monday in April.

Since our last visit Banbury have added some cover at the Kings Sutton End of the ground, which is sponsored by Puritans Radio.

Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett adds defender Jordaan Brown to the 16-man party that headed to Leiston on Saturday.

With Kettering not in league action on Tuesday night, any positive result for Gary Hackett's men will see the Glassboys go top of the table - albeit leaving the Poppies with three games in hand.

Banbury currently sit 14th in the table with 23 points from 18 games (won 5, drew 8 and lost 5), but after a disappointing home defeat to Hayes & Yeading in the FA Trophy last month the Puritans have now put an unbeaten 5-match streak together in the league, although 4 have been draws and in a tightly packed midfield area of the table, they're only four points off the play-offs!

Managed by former Oxford City boss Mike Ford, notable names in their playing ranks include striker turned defender on occasions RICKY JOHNSON who has made over 200 appearances for the club either side of a spell at Leamington and remains a threat in the air, experienced striker STEVE DIGGIN is a wily performer who enjoyed particular success at Brackley Town, while much of their attacking threat comes from pacey wide-man GREG KAZIBONI who is not afraid to check inside and get a shot away. Striker JOHN MILLS. who was a prolific goalscorer for Hereford FC as they rose from step 5 to win promotion to the National League North last April is also presently with the Oxfordshire club on loan from Bath City, whom he joined in the summer.
