The Glassboys rounded off their pre-season schedule with a 3 - 1 win away at Bromsgrove Sporting. (READ ON)

On a warm afternoon at the Victoria Ground, the two sides served up a good contest with the new season just a week away.

Sporting included ex-Glassboys Josh Quaynor and Nathan Hayward in their line-up.

Stourbridge attacked up the slope in the first half and early exchanges were fairly even.

In the 19th minute Raajan Gill was called into action to save a shot from the edge of the area by Danny Jackman.

With 34 minutes gone the Worcestershire hosts went close as Charlie Dowd twisted and turned inside the box before seeing his shot deflect off Darryl Westlake and loop on to the crossbar.

Stourbridge responded three minutes later with Brad Birch combining with Benbow and hitting a shot from 18 yards that was tipped over for a corner.

The Glassboys opened the scoring two minutes in stunning fashion before the break when a ball forward was controlled on his chest by Benbow, who then let fly on the half volley from 25 yards out and although Reece Francis got a hand to the ball at full stretch, he couldn't keep it out.

There was plenty of drama early in the second-half with a flurry of goals and a saved penalty in quick succession.

In the 52nd minute Bromsgrove levelled matters after the visitors lost possession in midfield and Jamie Clarke then set up Will Shorrock who shot home past Gill.

Westlake was replaced by returning loanee Aaron Hayden on 54 mins and three minutes later Stourbridge were back in front as Kaiman Anderson wriggled to make room for a low shot past the keeper.

Play quickly switched to the other end where the referee spotted a push on Murray and awarded a penalty, however Gill went the right way to save Quaynor's spot-kick.

Just past the hour mark Hayden made it 3 - 1 to Stourbridge. Rob Thompson-Brown sent in a free-kick and the ball was deflected up into the air and Hayden rose highest to direct a header into the net.

With both sides making several substitutions, the match lost some zest, but near the end Hayden almost got his second. A free-kick in from wide by Benbow was only partially cleared and Hayden fired a shot against the post.

Team - Gill, Westlake, Christophorou, McCone, Duggan, Forde, Birch, Broadhurst, Benbow, Thompson-Brown, Anderson

Subs - Hayden, Pierpoint, Hall, Trialist J, Edmonds-Hill, Mills and Coton.

The serious stuff when points make prizes gets underway on Saturday, 11th August with the Glassboys off to Barwell for their Southern League Premier Division Central bow before hosting Stratford Town at the War Memorial Athletic Ground two days later in their first home game of the season.
