Gary Hackett's men put in a determined display away at higher level Guiseley, but ultimately came up just short. The Glassboys wide players weren't able to influence the game as hoped but it looked like Stourbridge might have enough about them to earn a replay until the tie unravelled in the last fifteen minutes.

The contest was an absorbing one, played at a good tempo, although there were few clear chances besides the goals.

With three players ruled out by suspension and Darryl Westlake only deemed fit enough to be amongst the substitutes, the starting eleven more or less picked itself with Benbow, McCone, Powell and Forde returning after being amongst the substitutes against Bedworth.

The West Yorkshire based hosts attacked down the slope at Nethermoor in the first period and both sides took time to settle with early set pieces at either end coming to nothing.

Guiseley opened the scoring after 19 minutes. The referee pulled back play for a foul by Jordaan Brown on Curtis Morrison just outside the left-hand side of the box. The resulting free-kick was taken by Alex Purver who floated the ball into the six-yard box where Will Thornton got a run on his marker, Brown, to direct a header beyond Wren.

Stourbridge though were not behind for long. Three minutes later they were back on level terms through a moment of magic from Luke Benbow. A throw-in from Brown on the left was flicked on by Stuart Pierpoint into the middle of the box where Benbow managed to flick the ball up before producing an over-head kick past a rooted Joe Green in the home goal.

Guiseley looked to respond with Thornton seeing another head from a long throw-in on the right drift past the far post, while on 36 minutes Thornton rolled the ball into the path of Kayode Odejayi on the edge of the box and he laid off a short pass to Will Hatfield, but he screwed his shot well off-target.

The home side were first to threaten after the re-start. In the 53rd minute Thornton collected the ball and advanced forward before hitting a low shot from around 35 yards out that Wren got safely behind.

The Glassboys made their first change after 61 minutes with Chekaine Steele replacing Powell followed three minutes later by Guiseley who brought on Lewis Walters for Morrison.

In the 66th minute Guiseley took a short corner on the right with Purver cutting it into the path of Alex Ray Harvey on the corner of the box and he curled in a dangerous ball which evaded everybody at the far post to the relief of the visitors.

Guiseley made a second change with 19 minutes to go with Kaine Felix on for Kingsley James and it would be the two Guiseley subs that would make the difference down the stretch.

Stourbridge fell behind in disappointing fashion in the 76th minute. A long kick upfield by Joe Green into the right channel area was not dealt with by McCone and Odejayi was able to get the wrong side of him and run on to the ball and with Wren drawn off his line, the former Barnsley striker was able to square a low cross for Walters to have a routine tap-in into an unguarded net.

Stourbridge brought on Attoumani for Birch two minutes later, but the outcome was effectively settled in the 80th minute when Odejayi provided a header on and Felix reacted smartest and used his pace to burst past two defenders before tucking away a low shot past Wren.

In the 88th minute the two home subs linked up well with Walters feeding Felix who drove his shot over the bar.

Westlake replaced Pierpoint soon afterwards just before six minutes of time added on was indicated and in the last of those minutes Stourbridge almost halved the deficit with a left-wing corner from Forde met by Steele, however his header was tipped over the bar by Green.

The Glassboys can take heart from their latest F A Cup adventure which has seen them claim the scalps of two National League North sides and collect a welcome £30,000 in prize money, but Guiseley now go forward into Monday evening's draw for the 1st Round Proper.
