It finished honours even in the alternative no. 9 derby with both goals coming in the opening quarter of the match. (READ ON)

A decent sized crowd of over 300 witnessed this friendly match, played in cooler conditions than of late.

The home side competed strongly from the off, but the Glassboys carved out the first chance of the night after 7 minutes with a left-wing cross from Mills finding Benbow who headed wide.

Lye replied with Jack Till embarking on a strong run through the middle of the pitch before hitting a low 20-yard shot that was gathered by Rajaan Gill.

Two minutes later Stourbridge opened the scoring with Anderson playing a through ball into the path of Trialist L on the right and his low pulled-back centre was seized upon by Greg Mills who wrapped his foot around the ball and drilled it past the keeper.

Stourbridge joy proved short-lived though as almost immediately McCone was adjudged to have bundled over Till inside the area and Lye's no. 11 sent Gill the wrong way from the spot.

The Glassboys made four changes at the break, followed by four more substitutions on the hour mark.

Stourbridge finished the stronger and had chances to re-take the lead. In the 73rd minute Trialist K won possession and advanced forward before smacking a low shot against the foot of the keeper's left-hand upright. Four minutes later Reid had a good chance after Mills slipped the ball into his path from the left, however the summer signing pushed his shot wide.

Tom Edmonds-Hill replaced Mills for our final substitution of the evening after 81 minutes.

In the 86th minute a quickly taken free-kick in the middle of the park was played short to Trialist K and his measured pass picked out Alex Cameron, who fired in an angled shot that was tipped over by the keeper.

In the final minute Stourbridge had a goal ruled out with Reid penalised for a foul on the keeper as he rose with the home custodian to meet a cross from Edmonds-Hill on the left and head home.

We wish our MFL Premier Division near neighbours all the best for the coming season and now Stourbridge look forward to their annual pilgrimage to Stourport Swifts this Saturday (3 pm).
