The curse of Grantham continued for Stour as the Gingerbreads left Amblecote with all three points.

Striker Lee Shaw scored twice late on to sink Gary Hackett’s men - who were beaten three times by Grantham last season - on a wet and windy afternoon in Stourbridge.

Aaron Forde missed out with a shin problem so boss Hackett opted for a 4-4-2 formation with debutant Luke Shearer partnering Jordan Archer up front.

Kennedy Digie, also making his debut, slotted in at right-back while Aris Christophorou moved over to left-back.

Matt Gould had to be alert early on to race off his line and cut out Shaw’s through ball to Jordan Hempenstall.

Stour could have taken the lead in the seventh minute when Archer played Shearer in through the middle but his heavy touch allowed keeper Kieran Preston to smother the ball.

Gould comfortably saved Oliver Luto’s 25-yard free kick 12 minutes in and then Shearer went close from Dodd’s pull back after a great ball down the right from skipper Paul McCone.

Shearer again was in the action, firing over the bar from a tight angle after using his pace to create a few yards of space.

Luto fired another free-kick straight at Gould just before half time as the game remained goalless.

Grantham started the second period strongly, Curtis Burrows having a shot easily saved by Gould before Shaw fired into the side netting just three minutes in.

Daniel Meadows then had a fierce shot from a corner hit Gould before Stour could scramble it away and Burrows’ effort from a free-kick minutes later was also well blocked as the Gingerbreads looked lively.

Archer looked through from a McCone long ball but took too long and was dispossessed before the striker then saw a header hit the post from a Tom Tonks throw in the 55th minute.

Jack Duggan got his head to a Dodd cross on the hour mark but there wasn’t enough power to beat Preston and the defender then headed over from a Tonks cross.

Tonks was involved again, playing Dodd in down the right before the ball fell to Devarn Green who fired well over in the 70th minute. The winger had another chance a minute later but his curling effort was straight at keeper Preston.

Tonks had a shot of his own with 12 minutes left but his 20-yarder was well blocked and Dodd fired the rebound high and wide.

The second half was back-and-forth throughout and it was the visitors that struck the crucial blow in the 81st minute.

A cross from the right was met by Burrows and his effort was turned in by Shaw from very close range.

Duggan, pushed up as an emergency striker, headed wide in added time but it was Grantham that found the net again, Shaw looping an effort over Gould in the 93rd minute.

Stourbridge (4-4-2): Gould; Digie Duggan, McCone, Christophorou; Dodd, Broadhurst, Tonks, D Green; Archer, Shearer (Cooke 70). Subs not used: Pierpoint, J Green, O’Callghan, Rowe.

Attendance: 600
