A four-goal first half blitz was enough to banish fears of an FA Cup hangover, and give the Glassboys a comfortable victory at Stormy Corner

Goals from Kristian Green, Luke Benbow, a Dylan Smith own goal, and Chris Lait meant Stour led 4-0 at the break, and although the second period was less lively there was never any glimmer of the Glassboys surrendering that advantage.

After a scrappy opening twenty minutes, Green provided the spark that got Stourbridge going. Collecting the ball from Darryl Westlake on half way, after a Stour corner had been cleared, he advanced on goal before unleashing a thunderbolt from 25 yards that clipped the underside of the crossbar before nestling in the back of the net.

Seven minutes later the lead was doubled, as Jordan Archer and then Jack Duggan helped on a corner to Benbow who, back to goal eight yards out, controlled the ball on his chest, turned and volleyed past Chris Cheetham, with the keeper again helpless.

A third goal arrived on 34 minutes as the unfortunate Smith stretched out a leg to divert a cross from Matt Dodd beyond Cheetham, and it was four on 39 minutes when Dodd again crossed from the right, this time for Lait to power a header home. Cheetham this time got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out.

Jack Duggan had a header ruled out for climbing before the interval, and was then penalised for the same offence early in the second period as Benbow diverted another header in, whilst Dan Scarr's looping header kissed the crossbar and fell safely.

At the other end Matt Gould was never seriously troubled, with only a handful of shots from distance keeping him occupied. Smith's afternoon, meanwhile, went from bad to worse as he collected two yellow cards, and with them a red, for fouls on Dodd, meaning the home side finished with ten men.

The win lifts Stourbridge four places to 7th in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division table, just three points off the play-off places, and seven points adrift of Blyth Spartans at the top.

The game also marked yet another landmark for Leon Broadhurst, who made his 650th appearance for the Glassboys. Congratulation, Leon!
