The Glassboys put in a below par performance but still came away with a point against in-form Lancaster City.

Tom Tonks, making his 100th appearance in a Stourbridge shirt, tested Lancaster keeper Josh Powell early on from 20-yards but the stopper made a simple save.

The Glassboys looked dangerous from set pieces and skipper Paul McCone narrowly headed an Aaron Forde corner wide before seeing another header in the 13th minute blocked on the line.

It was a sloppy start from Stour, who were reckless in possession, and Darryl Westlake had to be alert to head away a dangerous Paul Dugdale cross from the left.

Stour almost took the lead in the 22nd minute when Leon Broadhurst diverted a cross onto the post and Ryan Winder then did brilliantly to clear a Jack Duggan effort, from another set piece, off the line.

Duggan received a yellow for a collision with Lancaster captain Gavin Clark, who then had to be replaced, but the visitors grew into the game.

The nearest they came to scoring in the first period was in the 40th minute but Scott Harries’ effort from a corner was blocked by Jordan Archer.

Tonks went close to giving the Glassboys a half-time lead following great work by Archer and Broadhurst but the midfielder saw his shot from ten-yards well saved by Powell.

The returning Stuart Pierpoint got into the action two minutes after half time, replacing Duggan who went down injured after stretching for a loose ball.

Boss Gary Hackett wanted to inject some pace into the game and new signing Devarn Green replaced Ryan Rowe in the 54th minute.

Aaron Forde became the second Glassboy in the referee’s book in the 58th minute after bringing down Craig Carney as Lancaster looked to break from a Stour corner.

Green almost made an immediate impact, playing a smart one-two with Forde before advancing to the edge of the box and seeing his shot go just wide.

Danny O’Callaghan replaced Tonks with 20 minutes to go and Stour pushed for a winner but Lancaster’s strong defence stood firm. And City almost grabbed the win in stoppage time but Oliver Wood could only divert a Harries shot straight at Matt Gould from close range.

Stour were forced to settle for a point ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Warrington Town.
