The Glassboys were truly outclassed by Macclesfield, who progress to the First Round Proper of this year’s FA Cup.

An early goal on nine minutes from Macclesfield midfielder Danny Whitehead, with the help of a slight deflection, was enough to beat Matt Gould and put Stourbridge on the backfoot.

Stourbridge responded with midfielder Aaron Forde having a go at goal from distance. The pressure was short-lived as Macclesfield broke away quickly on the counter, leaving forward Tyrone Marsh to beat Gould to double the Silkmen’s lead.

The Glassboys again responded with an opportunity on 15 minutes for Jordan Archer who was put through on goal by a Josh Green lob, however it just wouldn’t fall for the Stour frontman who couldn’t force the ball into the net.

Macclesfield continued to dominate with a series of mazy runs by wingers Elliot Durrell and Koby Arthur causing chaos for the Stour defence, leading to several opportunities for the visitors.

On 30 minutes, Stour began to fight back once more with a series of long throws by Tom Tonks causing problems for the Macclesfield backline. It wasn’t to be as Leon Broadhurst, Jack Duggan and Paul McCone had headers blocked in a goalmouth scramble on 35 minutes.

Macclesfield made it 3-0 just before half time as Durrell turned Jack Duggan to slot home into the bottom corner.

Stourbridge came out with intent in the second half as another long throw by Tonks was met by Duggan who couldn’t quite get the direction needed, while Archer was unable to get to the loose ball.

Stourbridge winger Matt Dodd was brought down by David Fitzpatrick in the 53rd minute, with the referee awarding a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area, the left-back receiving a yellow card in the process. Broadhurst’s effort, however, went high and very wide.

Home boss Gary Hackett brought on Josh Cooke for Josh Green while Danny O’Callaghan came on, replacing Aris Christophorou who was carrying a knock.

Macclesfield made it 4-0 on 67 minutes with ex-Birmingham City winger Arthur finishing well from the edge of the area. Just over ten minutes later in 78th minute, the visitors made it five with a stunning effort on the volley by midfielder Scott Burgess, leaving Gould with no chance of saving the effort.

Forde had another shot at goal in the 81st minute, stunning Shwan Jalal in the Macclesfield goal, who pushed the ball into the air, only to claim it second time round. Drew Canavan replaced Broadhurst in the closing stages, but all hope had gone.

It wasn’t to be as the Glassboys were outdone by the high-flying National League side. Attention now turns to the Integro League Cup where we face Alvechurch on Monday.
