The Glassboys suffered late heartache as a stoppage-time goal gave Ashton United all three points at Amblecote.

Stour fought back from behind twice but Josh Granite’s header in added time meant the visitors returned home with all three points.

The snowy conditions made for a difficult game for both sides and boss Gary Hackett opted to bring Aris Christophorou back into the starting line-up with Friday signing Nicolae Carnat on the bench.

Neither side were able to grab control of the game in a scrappy first-half with Stour going close through Luke Benbow, whose acrobatic overhead kick went just over.

The visitors almost took the lead early on through Sam Sheridan and played some good football at times on a bobbly pitch.

Ashton took the lead in first-half stoppage time as Stour switched off. Daniel Mooney played through Nic Evangelinos, his first shot was well saved by Matt Gould but the rebound fell kindly to the striker, who turned the ball home.

Aaron Hayden went close with a header from a corner just after the break but Stour were level in the 54th minute.

Benbow did well to hold the ball up, Chris Gallagher was released down the right-hand side and his low ball into the box was finished brilliantly by Kaiman Anderson.

The goal sparked the Glassboys into life. Gallagher did well again and fed Benbow but the striker’s effort was well blocked.

Then half-time substitute Luke Shearer did excellently down the left and crossed for Benbow who saw his shot blocked by strike partner Anderson before he fired the rebound narrowly wide.

Ashton just about survived and then fought back, Gould doing brilliantly to smoother a Liam Tomsett effort before they retook the lead in the 69th minute.

Substitute Khanye Makhosini got down the left wing, his cross found the unmarked Evangelinos and the forward finished well from ten yards out.

It took Stour just two minutes to equalise, however, after Shearer was brought down in the penalty area by Sheridan. Leon Broadhurst stepped up and duly smashed the spot kick into the net.

Gould did brilliantly to save Evangelinos’ effort with five minutes to go before Stour sub Josh Cooke fired narrowly over from 20-yards.

Credit must go to both sides for producing an entertaining spectacle in awful conditions with the second-half blighted by a non-stop blizzard.

But it was Ashton who had the final say in the first minute of added time. A corner was whipped in from the right and substitute Josh Granite powered a header into the net.

It was a cruel blow for Stour who will look to bounce back on Tuesday against Witton Albion.

Stourbridge: Gould, Hayden, Westlake, McCone, Pierpoint, Forde, Gallagher, Broadhurst, Benbow, Anderson (Cooke 89), Christophorou (Shearer 46). Subs not used: Tonks, Antonio, Carnat.

Attendance: 367
