The Glassboys climbed to second in the Evo-Stik Premier table with a convincing display at the War Memorial Ground on Monday evening.

Visitors Hednesford were under the cosh for much of the game, and the margin of victory could easily have been wider.

Stour had already been close twice when Jordan Archer missed with a free header from Josh Green's corner, and then had claims for a goal waved away after a goalmouth scramble, but the deadlock was eventually broken when Aaron Forde intercepted a pass to set up Jordan Archer on 33 minutes and his rasping strike from 25 yards went in off James Wren's right-hand post.

Ryan Rowe had a goal disallowed for handball just before the break, but was not to be denied his first goal of the season with 61 minutes played when he turned home jack Duggan's powerful header from another Green corner.

Stour thought they had a third on 77 minutes as substitute Danny O'Callaghan turned the impressive Matt Dodd's cross goalwards only for Wren to claw the ball away amidst strong claims that it had crossed the line.

Dodd, against the club he left only last week, was at the hub of much of Stour's good work throughout the evening, but this was as much as anything a win built on solid team-work in all areas.

Shaw lane's 2-0 win at home to Rushall Olympic moves them to the top of the table, but the Glassboys go second ahead of Tuesday night's fixtures.
