The Glassboys booked their place in the Birmingham Senior Cup final with a 3-1 victory against West Bromwich Albion.

Stour were good value for the victory and will now be looking to win the Senior Cup for the first time in 50 years against either Hednesford Town or Nuneaton Town in the final at the end of the season.

Aaron Hayden came back into the team following his four-match ban whilst fellow Wolves loanee Nicu Carnat missed out due to being cup-tied.

Stour started brightly and took a ninth-minute lead through the returning Hayden. A Tom Tonks long throw was only half cleared and Hayden was there to fire an effort into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

The visitors found it hard to get into the game but were handed a lifeline in the 22nd minute when Callum Morton was brought down in the penalty area after getting the better of Stuart Pierpoint. The striker picked himself up to send Matt Gould the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Luke Benbow fashioned a couple of chances for himself but found West Brom keeper Alex Palmer in good form before Stour were forced to use their first substitute just before half-time, young defender James Timmins replacing the injured Darryl Westlake.

Stour came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and retook the lead in the 51st minute. Cooke, playing on the left-hand side, ran on to a loose ball and unleashed a fantastic dipping half-volley that flew past Palmer and into the top corner from all of 20 yards.

The young Baggies began to show their class on the ball by dominating possession and that led to two bookings for Stour as Timmins and Hayden went into the referee’s book.

West Brom’s Alex Bradley should have done better from Jonathan Leko’s good cross and they were made to pay for their profligacy in the 74th minute.

Chris Gallagher’s near-post corner from the left was brilliantly glanced home by defender Pierpoint to give Stour a two-goal advantage.

West Brom’s youngsters pushed for a goal to get back into the game but Stour - who gave young winger Tom Edmonds-Hill his first-team debut - defended resolutely and looked fairly comfortable despite the visitors’ possession.

Stour will have to wait to see who they will face in the final with Hednesford taking on Nuneaton next Thursday, 26th April.

Stourbridge (4-3-2-1): Gould; Hayden, McCone, Pierpoint, Westlake (Timmins 42); Tonks (Edmonds-Hill 73), Birch, Broadhurst; Cooke (Shearer 70), Gallagher; Benbow. Subs not used: Hague, Hawk (GK).

Attendance: 650
