MATCH PREVIEW

Nearly seven months on from that memorable night at St Andrew's when Luke Benbow's late winning goal against Hednesford saw us lift the Birmingham Senior Cup for the first time in 50 years, our defence of the trophy gets underway as we welcome ROMULUS FC to the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

With one or two injuries affecting the team, boss Gary Hackett has called up midfielder Jamie Mastropierro and striker Cameron Walker and they are added to the squad that was involved at St Neots on Saturday.

After losing to lower division opposition in the shape of Cinderford Town last month in the League Cup, the Glassboys will be keen to avoid a repeat, particularly with near neighbours and rivals Halesowen Town awaiting the victors in the last eight!

After years of ground-sharing at Sutton Coldfield Town, the Roms have now moved into the Castle Vale Stadium in Birmingham that was originally the home of Paget Rangers this season as they continue to build up a successful academy set-up.

At first team level Romulus haven't fared so well this year. They were relegated from the NPL Division 1 South at the end of last season, but made a reasonable start to life in the new campaign in the Midland Football League Premier Division and they almost upset St Neots Town in the FA Cup in September. In fact they led 3 - 0 after 17 minutes following a breath-taking start before the Cambridgeshire side turned things around to win 4 - 3 with a goal three minutes into stoppage time at the end. However a recent poor run of results has seen them slide down the table and last week the managerial reigns were passed to Mark Swann in a bid to turn their fortunes around.

Their side includes some experienced players in amongst some younger faces. Striker Luke Keen has returned to the Roms fold recently after spells with the likes of Alvechurch, Redditch and Bedworth, while Kris Taylor has played at a much higher level with Walsall and Port Vale, but has more recently seen service with Hednesford, Rushall and Stafford Rangers. Midfielder Stuart McNaught has also previously been with the likes of Sutton Coldfield Town, Stafford Rangers and Rushall Olympic.

Romulus beat a young Walsall side 5 - 1 in the First Round of this competition to set up Monday night's visit to the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

Romulus last visited Stourbridge in September 2010 for an FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round tie that the Glassboys won 2 - 0 with Kyle Brady and Ryan Rowe on target.
