MATCH PREVIEW

This weekend might not be about the 'glamour and glitz' of the F A Cup, but it is an important few days for the Glassboys with home games coming up against Royston Town on Saturday and Bedworth United on Monday night as Gary Hackett's men look to strengthen their position at the top end of the league.

Saturday's game is kindly sponsored by TOP TUBES who are based in Wednesbury.

ROYSTON TOWN are first-time visitors on Saturday. The Hertfordshire outfit are managed by former Leyton Orient, Plymouth, Birmingham City and Peterborough midfielder STEVE CASTLE who has been at the helm since December 2013.

After suffering play-off heartache in 2014/15 and 2015/16 they were Southern League Central title winners a year later to take their place in step 3 of the non-league pyramid and in 2017/18 they finished 7th in the Southern League Premier Division before being switched into the newly created Premier Division Central Division in May.

A 2 - 0 win over Bedworth last Saturday saw Royston leapfrog the Glassboys into 3rd spot in the league. They have amassed 17 points from 9 games (won 5, drew 2 and lost 2) having won four league games on the trot since a surprise loss at home to St Ives Town on August Bank Holiday Monday. This includes a notable 2 - 1 victory at Tamworth at the end of September.

The Crows have recently made a major signing with the recruitment of experienced striker David Mooney from Leyton Orient and other familiar names in their playing ranks include ex- Chesham and Hemel attacking midfielder James Potton and ex-St Albans City and Hemel midfield man Sam Corcoran.

Other than longer term injury victims Tom Tonks and Jack Duggan, the Glassboys are expected to be at full strength for the Royston match with boss Gary Hackett spoilt for choice with his starting eleven and perhaps with the latest storm hitting the country called Storm Callum, it would be rather appropriate if Callum Powell delivered a match winning showing on Saturday afternoon to be a headline writer's dream!!

BUCKET COLLECTION
