Leon Broadhurst’s 700th game in a Stourbridge shirt ended in defeat as WORKINGTON grabbed a winner in the fourth minute of added time.

Luke Shearer had equalised for the Glassboys in the 87th minute but Phil McLuckie was in the right place at the right time deep into stoppage time to give Workington all three points.

Boss Gary Hackett stuck with the same team that beat National League North side Bradford Park Avenue in the FA Trophy on Monday night and they started brightly with both Aaron Forde and Luke Benbow going close.

Benbow, on 99 goals for Stour, stumbled as he shot in the 21st minute when the striker would have hoped to hit the target.

Workington came into the game more as the first half wore on but Kyle Perry could have given Stour the lead in the 36th minute, firing over the bar from 12 yards out.

Sam Joel shot wide from the edge of the area for the home side but he got on the scoresheet in the 41st minute.

Winger Dave Symington did well to put in a good low cross to the back post and Joel was there to finish from close range.

Shearer flicked a Benbow cross just wide of the far post and Symington tested Matt Gould after the break as both sides looked to grab the next goal.

Wide-man Shearer was again in the action, firing over the bar after a good ball over the top gave him space.

Stour’s task got harder with ten minutes left as Benbow was shown a straight red for what was deemed a studs up challenge on Workington’s Gari Rowntree.

Gould did well to deny Nathan Waterston and substitute Josh Cooke then volleyed over for Stour.

The Glassboys’ ten men fought back and equalised with three minutes left. Forde played a neat one-two with Cooke down the right, drove into the area and crossed for Shearer to score from close range.

The home side had the final say, however, in the fourth minute of time added on. Matty Douglas’ shot through a packed penalty area was parried by Gould and McLuckie was there to fire the loose ball home.

The defeat means Stour drop to tenth in the Evo-Stik Premier ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Nantwich Town.

Stourbridge: Gould, Westlake, McCone, Pierpoint, Christophorou, Tonks (Green 61), Forde, Broadhurst, Shearer, Perry (Cooke 79), Benbow. Subs not used: Marsh, Evans, Collingridge.
