STOUR OUT OF STAFFS YOUTH CUP

Stour relinquished their hold on the Staffs Youth Cup, going down to a 2-1 defeat at Heath Hayes.

No passion, no heart and no urgency for the occasion was shown by a number of the Stour lads last night. There were exceptions, mainly the lads who had helped win the trophy last year and a couple of the young ones.

Heath Hayes wanted to win more than Stour and they took the lead after 30 minutes when they played down the empty right side of the Stour defence and their forward hit a shot across Jeavons and into the bottom corner.

Stour equalised out of nowhere on 74 minutes when Brigdale hit a shot from the edge of the area, through the defenders legs and past the unsighted keeper. However, it lasted no more than a minute as Hayes attacked and lobbed a square ball over Jeavons head and off the underside of the bar from 25 yards to restore the lead.

A poor performance overall and some of the younger lads need to learn from it. You must step up to the plate at this level or you suffer as they did last night.
