Hereford edge out Glassboys

Stourbridge slip to defeat
Stourbridge slip to defeat against a strong, disciplined and well organised Hereford side. A positive start where Stourbridge dominated with a high press continually winning the ball back in our opponents half should have seen us take the lead through Mitchell Heathcote inside the first 10 minutes but a very good save kept the scores level. Will Bishop and Kyle Peters
offered excellent width and support to Mitch and Corey but the Hereford backline stood strong.
Hereford grew into the game showing some excellent running power in wide areas and they started to get their passing game going and had a well worked move on the left finished with a goal that was ruled out for offside. Hayden Reeves then powered a header over from a James Welch
corner which should have given the Glassboys the lead at the interval but it ended 0-0.
The game became a little broken in the second quarter with lots of cheap free kicks from both teams as the game seemed to turn into a physical contest that Hereford started to dominate. Stourbridge had to defend a number of corners and the lively number 9 was causing lots of problems.
0-0 half time and a number of changes were made by the home team
immediately made an impact as he started to win and hold up the ball and he created an excellent chance down the right whipping a ball across the face of the box but no one could get on the end. Mitch and Corey continued to probe down the flanks but the Hereford full backs stuck to their task well.
At the other end Joe made a fantastic save with his legs to keep the scores level. Hereford took the lead on 55 minutes after a period of sustained pressure. We defended a number of crosses really well but then had opportunity to clear our lines and break but played the ball back into a dangerous area. Hereford midfielder picked ball up and drove inside before unleashing a low shot that hit the inside of the post and went in.
The boys responded well and equalised within 3 minutes. Corey Sheaf finishing smartly with his left foot to take us into the final quarter level at 1-1.
The first 10 minutes we dominated possession and territory as we went in search of the winning goal. Fletch drove through on his left foot and forced a save from the goalkeeper. We had a number of free kicks and corners that we didn’t capitalise on and then we got done with a sucker punch. Hereford went down the other end and won a corner. A routine catch was dropped leaving a tap in and us 2-1 down.
Herefords tails were up and they saw the game out well looking stronger and fitter as we had no response. Overall a fair result. Hereford are a strong side who passed the ball well. We need to learn and learn quickly that football is played with your head. Instructions are given for a reason and we need to carry them out to be successful individually and collectively as a team.
