Stour progress in cup

Stourbridge safely moved into the next round
Stourbridge safely moved into the next round with a 5-1 win over Cheltenham. A slow start from the boys saw Cheltenham enjoy a good start to the game as we struggled in possession giving the ball away to cheaply. Although we saw plenty of the ball we either gave it away through poor decisions or technique. Very frustrating as we took up some excellent positions in particular Will Bishop and James Fletcher
looking to run in behind.
We still had a number of chances with Mitch, Amari and Jimmy all going close but Cheltenham threatened on the break with Tom Hunt and Liam Hurle needing to deal with balls over the top and Coops swept up well.
It took a double change on the half hour mark to spark us into life. Dan Harvey
and Kyle Peters
immediately injecting some urgency and quality into our play. Kyle was involved down the left with Mitch for what looked like a terrific move and goal from Fletch but it was ruled out for a dubious offside. The big man didn't have to wait long as a Dan Harvey
flick on put the striker through. He powered the ball past the keeper.
Shortly after the big man chased down the goalkeeper forcing him into panic mode. He smashed it against the CF to spark wild celebrations from Fletch (a funny looking cartwheel)!! Fletch was now full of confidence and just before half time burst through forcing the keeper to bring him down. The skipper stepped up but couldn't beat the keeper who made a save low down to his left.
Right at the half way stage we conceded a sloppy breakaway goal - 2-1 half time
The boys started much brighter in the second period moving the ball with real purpose and using the wide areas much better. Corey was upended in the box after a good passing move and then got back up and showed Jimmy how to score from the spot.
Then goal of the game as Jimmy broke through a couple of tackles and stood a ball up at the back post. A towering header from in form striker Callum Swain
made the game 4-1. The boys were playing with great confidence. Tom and Hayden playing out from the back feeding midfield whom were taking much better care of the ball.
A terrific run from Dan Harvey
saw him brought down 20 yards out. Corey stepped up and bent it in the bottom corner. A mixture of average officiating and opponents increasing physicality meant the game was disjointed for the last 10 minutes although we never looked in trouble.
Tougher tests lie ahead starting next week.
