Late, late show seals points for Glassboys

A hard fought victory
A hard fought victory between two excellent sides saw Stourbridge come away with all 3 points. The most pleasing aspect about today was the discipline shown and ability to switch tactically to stop our free scoring opponents. Coming into the game Sutton had been averaging 6 to 7 goals per game boasting the leagues two top scorers. We were under no illusions that the task was going to be tough and we needed to stay focused and in the game.
In fairness we started OK but needlessly gifted a goal on 10 minutes with a poor square ball in the wrong area. Decision making and poor execution of pass was proving our downfall as we caused our own problems but there were enough signs to give us encouragement.
A tactical switch saw us look brighter and a more attacking threat with Mitchell Heathcote looking menacing on the right and James Fletcher
causing problems and Kyle Peters
making a number of marauding runs forward. Tom Hunt and Hayden Reeves were coping admirably with the two strikers and Liam Hurle slotted in well at right back although his only mistake of the game caused Oli Cooper to make a great save with his legs from a Sutton corner. Jimmy Welch, Oli Hartland and Dan Harvey
started to get on the ball and cause more problems for Sutton in this quarter and the work rate of the midfield was immense. 1-0 half time.
Corey and Swainy entered the game as we looked to attack a little more. We dominated the first 10 minutes and were unlucky not to score from one of the five corners we had. Sutton like us were defending well. We then had to deal with 3 or 4 mins of intense pressure as a brilliant Sutton move ended with them hitting our post. Oli also made a couple of important stops. We then went down the other end and scored. A lovely flick on from Callum Swain
saw James Fletcher
upended in the box but a free kick was given!! Corey Sheaf stepped up and found the bottom corner with a low drive. 1-1 after 3rd quarter.
More changes meant fresh legs for the final period as Sutton came at us chasing the victory. We continued to defend brilliantly. Hayden Reeves typified this with a couple of vital challenges. Lewis Nicholls and Will Bishop linked up really well on the right side as did Charlie Morris with Corey on the opposite flank.
On 76 minutes delight for the boys as a lovely counter attack saw the ball switched to Corey. An excellent cut back found Callum Swain
who finished confidentally with his left foot to make it 2-1. Sutton came straight back at us and probed but the boys kept their shape well with Tom Trevis, Amari Richards and Dan Harvey
protecting the back four. Another counter on 80 minutes came direct from Oli Cooper. A long kick saw Corey bravely head over the goalkeeper and Swainy tap in for his 2nd which sparked wild celebrations.
A true team effort - every single player had a massive contribution today but MOM goes to Oli Cooper. When called into action he made 2 or 3 vital saves at crucial times and his general handling was impeccable. This performance should fill us with confidence going forward but we must not show any complacency.
