Cup exit for Stour

Stourbridge rue missed chances
Stourbridge rue missed chances as a game they dominated for an hour saw the lads throw it away in the last five minutes gifting the visitors a quarter final spot. The first 5 minutes was as dominant and exciting as you will see with a number of glorious chances created with some good pressing, quick passing and sharp movement. We only found ourselves with a one goal advantage after Callum Swain
charged the keeper down. Oli Hartland should have doubled the lead on 10 minutes when a corner dropped that he completely missed from 8 yards. Three minutes later Amari Richards burst through with the keeper to beat but he put it wide. The boys seemed to ease off losing focus and discipline as the game went on and this almost cost us on 15 minutes as Hayden Reeves lost the ball. The striker went through and rounded Joe but sliced wide. We still created a number of excellent chances from wide areas. Will Bishop causing problems putting in good crosses that we failed to convert with either feet or head.
On 26 minutes we conceded a free kick from 30 yards and allowed a free header that was glanced into the far corner. Corey Sheaf and Amari Richards both went close before Tom Hunt struck just before half time. The big man showed good feet swivelling on a loose ball inside the penalty area after another corner. 2-1 half time.
The start of the second half saw us on the front foot again with Callum Swain
, Amari Richards and Corey Sheaf all missing good chances to extend the lead and the inevitable happened. Weston hung in there and grew stronger and more confident as they had the best of the last 15 minutes as the game went from end to end. As we broke with 5 minutes remaining, poor decision making saw us lose the ball and get counter attacked. Weston drew level and had their tails up. We then threw the game away three minutes later. A free kick from wide area was heading straight towards Corey who turned his body out of the way leaving Joes goal exposed and a smash and grab victory for our opponents.
To many individuals playing for themselves today. We need to get back to the team before individual mindset that served us so well before Christmas. As poor as we were today we had 15 clear goal scoring chances and our opponents had 5 yet we have lost!!
We wish Weston well, they showed determination and character today - essential ingredients for any successful team.
