Alex Jones Returns!

Alex Jones Returns!

Bek Howell6 Jun 2024 - 16:29

Liam McDonalds second summer signing sees Alex Jones return to The Glassboys.

The striker enjoyed two consecutive month long loans with us last season and grabbed three goals in six appearances, including our 94th minute winner against Alvechurch.

After coming through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion, he linked up with Birmingham City aged 20 and regularly appeared for their under 21 side before joining Grimsby Town on loan to gain more first team experience. He impressed for the National League side and was then sent out on loan to Port Vale of league one where he scored 10 goals in 21 matches for the Staffordshire outfit.

During the 2017 January transfer window, he was signed by Bradford City for an undisclosed fee and would score his first goal for the side against his former club Port Vale as the side went on to make the play off final that year. His time with The Bantams was disrupted by injury which saw him out of action for almost a year before going on loan to league two side Cambridge United for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

A move to Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle followed at the start of the 2019-20 season where he made 17 appearances before the season was curtailed due to the COVID 19 pandemic. A short spell with Northampton Town followed in 2021 where he made 9 appearances for the cobblers and opened his account against Charlton Athletic.

In November 2021, he linked up with then fellow Southern League Premier Central side Tamworth FC and made his debut in a 1-0 over Barwell. He remained with The Lambs for the 2022-23 season and made 24 appearances, scoring 7 goals, as they were crowned champions of the Southern League Premier Central Division. He stayed with the club as they began their National League North journey but illness and injury kept him side-lined for much of the start of the season before he joined us for his excellent loan spell.

Speaking on his return to Amblecote, Alex said “I am delighted to be back at the club. I really enjoyed my time here last season and after speaking to the Gaffa and hearing about his plans for the season ahead, It was an easy decision to make!”

Welcome back, Alex - we’re delighted to have you!
