Butler is Glassgirls Latest Recruit

Richard Clark9 Oct 2023 - 09:00

Glassgirls Manager Mike Harris has continued to add to his squad with the signing of ELLIE BUTLER from Oxford United.

The 21-year-old, who can play on either wing or as a striker, spent last season in the Barclays Women’s Championship with Coventry United (now Rugby Borough) before switching to the U’s in the summer, but has now opted for a move back to the Midlands.

Ellie developed through Bristol City’s Academy and then Tottenham Hotspur’s Development Programme, before signing for Wolves in 2020 where she was a member of the team that won the FAWNL Northern Premier Division, only to lose out narrowly to Southampton in the end of season promotion play-off.

Speaking about the move, Ellie told us, “After some good chats with Mike, I couldn’t say no. I came down to training to meet the girls, and everyone was so welcoming. It really is like one big family and I will definitely be happy here and thrive in this environment.

“I hope I can bring some excitement and create chances. I’ve got my own personal targets but whatever I can do to help us pick up points I would be extremely happy with. I’m very excited to be here!”

Meanwhile, the manager is excited by the latest arrival, who made her debut as a half time substitute during Sunday’s National League fixture at Burnley.

“Ellie has pace, two good feet, she’s composed in front of goal,” Harris explains. “There’s no doubt she will complement the striking options we already have at the club. Her experience of winning at this level will be a key factor for us, and the fact that she has played in the Championship shows what she is capable of.”

Ellie’s arrival follows on from the recent signing of striker JADE GROVE who joined the Glassgirls from Cheltenham Town, making her debut as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Stoke City before starting for the first time against Huddersfield Town last weekend.

We welcome both Ellie and Jade to the Club!
