Non-League obsessives MANarama can’t remember a start to the season like this!
It’s not bad entertainment, is it? A single point separates the top five in the BetVictor Southern Premier Central. And the good news is we’ve now got a double bill coming your way.
What a start it has been for leaders Rushall Olympic, Hednesford, Tamworth, Stourbridge and Banbury United.
With four teams on 19 points, it’s far too soon to be even considering picking a winner - but it’s our duty to give this incredible start to the season the once over ahead of Non-League day.
Rushall may lead the way, but Tamworth are the league’s form side and have won their last four.
Gary Smith and Andrew Danylyszyn have given Lambs fans belief again - but on Saturday and Tuesday come two title tests from two sides lurking just behind those quick starters. First it’s a demanding trip to Biggleswade, who have won four from five. Then AFC Rushden, who despite iffy recent form already have 16 points on the board.
Rushall want to stretch their legs and they face King’s Langley this weekend, a first league test for their new manager Chris Cummins after the club’s FA Cup heroics. On Tuesday, the leaders tackle Barwell.
Hednesford, letting in just five goals so far, are just a point off top - the next few days sees them at home to Royston before a visit to Bromsgrove Sporting.
FA Cup front-page headline makers Stourbridge appear to be in fine fettle whatever competition they are playing in, and their 20-goal league start is only bettered by the pace-setters.
The Glassboys fancy their chances of leading the way if they can come out on top in the big game of the weekend against Banbury, who like them are only one point off the leaders Rushall.
Mike Ford’s Puritans are watertight - conceding just eight goals in their 11 games and if they can start finding the net on a more regular basis then they could turn their fine start into something with longevity.
Elsewhere this weekend, Sky Sports are coming to do a special Non-League Day feature on Hitchin Town’s game with Bromsgrove. Bottom club Leiston have already let in 39 goals - Barwell visit but have lost three of their last five.
Two famous names meet, Nuneaton are at home to Redditch, Needham Market face Alvechurch while Peterborough Sports are at St Ives Town.
What do the coming days hold for the division?
While we have got you, why not do something really special this weekend….
