The Sutton Coldfield based hosts, managed by ex-Glassboy midfielder Richard Evans, included midfielder Tom Turton in their starting line-up, while Stourbridge handed out starts to a couple of new trialists.
The home side had the better of the opening passages of play with Dean Coleman the busier of the two keepers. Romulus took the lead on 17 minutes with Marcus Brown sending Coleman the wrong way from the penalty spot after James Spray was adjudged to have handled inside the box. Seven minutes later Stourbridge hit back, but Will Richards pulled his low shot the wrong side of Coton's right-hand post after Passeka had pulled the ball back into his path. The Glassboys best spell of the game came in the ten minutes leading up to half-time. In the 38th minute Canavan crossed from the left towards the far post where Marvin Nisbett saw his close range volley parried for a corner by the home keeper and from the resulting flag-kick Henry Eze got in a towering header that was blocked, but the ball rebounded to his feet and he fired on target, however Nathaniel Caines cleared the ball off the line. Three minutes before the break Richards fed Jordan Fitzpatrick whose low shot was saved by Coton.
The second-half was a relatively quiet affair with a lacklustre showing from the visitors going forward, although teenager Keiron Morris acquitted himself well at the back. The closest Stourbridge came to an equaliser was on 58 minutes when Nathan Bennett glanced a header wide from Canavan's chipped free-kick. Turton clipped a shot narrowly over for Romulus and the hosts also had a late goal ruled out for offside. Luke Benbow came off the bench to play wide right and after a good run, his shot was deflected for a corner, but the home side retained their lead to the final whistle.
