CHARLOTTE Wallis says that patience was the key during Sunday afternoon's top of the table 2-0 victory over 2nd-placed Cookley.

The game went ahead at Bluebell Road, even though there was doubt over the fixture on Sunday morning given the heavy rainfall experienced throughout Saturday, and Wallis says Cookley were a tough test for Andy Fisher's side.

"They came to make life difficult for us, and they did that in the first half - they are a strong side," she said.

"We had to be patient and play the 'long game' to a degree, because they did very well in the opening 45 minutes.

"With the score still goalless at the interval, we knew we had to improve in the second half if we wanted to win the game."

Goals in the second half from Carly Aldred and Dani Ranger were enough to claim the three points for the Glassgirls, and even though they now stand six points clear at the top of Division One South, Wallis insists that their unbeaten start is just a platform to build on for the rest of the season.

"Obviously we are really pleased to have won all seven of our games so far this season, and quite rightly so, too," she added.

"Am I surprised by our start? No, because we have some very, very good players in the squad here.

"But we need to keep our feet on the ground, keep working hard, and not worry too much about our league position. If we keep doing what we are doing, then the league table will look after itself."
