MATCH PREVIEW

While much has been made of the summer switch from the ‘Church to Stourbridge of Ian Long and Richard Colwell, along with other members of his backroom staff and, of course, several players, it’s worth noting that today’s visitors are likely to have a number of ex-Glassboys in their line-up. Linden Dovey, Aaron Birch, Joe Hull and Nehemia Zazi have all previously featured for us, along with Zac Foster and Mitch Botfield who both returned to Lye Meadow over the course of this season. A warm welcome back to them all!

We will be hoping to complete a league double today after recording a 3 – 0 victory at Alvechurch in January. Anthony Dwyer netted from the spot after 12 minutes and late goals followed from Nathan Hayward and Alex Nicholls.

Alvechurch currently find themselves in a relegation battle with the Worcestershire side lying 21st with 17 points from 27 league games. Away from home they have won two, drawn 1 and lost 11.

Dean Holtham's side are in a difficult run at the moment with just one point amassed from their last eight league games since a 3 - 2 win at Redditch United on New Year's Day.

Goalscoring has been a problem this season with just 24 goals in their 27 league matches with only one goal coming in their last six outings.

'Church did, however, have a confidence-boosting 3 - 0 win at home to the Kidderminster Harriers under 23's side at Lye Meadow on Wednesday night to book themselves a place in this season's Worcestershire Senior Cup Final against Bromsgrove Sporting in April as they try to defend the trophy they won last season.

Stourbridge sit just two points off a play-off spot despite some up and down form, particularly at home where the Glassboys have won only six times in 13 league games, but a strong finish to the campaign could yet see Ian Long's side firmly in contention for the top five.
