MATCH PREVIEW

Stourbridge look to put Tuesday night's defeat at Kettering Town quickly behind them as they prepare for another stiff test against a Tamworth side that have shown signs of an upturn in fortunes lately.

The Glassboys have enjoyed a fine home league record to date with just two points dropped in the eight Premier Division Central matches played at the War Memorial Athletic Ground so far this season - that being from the 1 - 1 draw with Halesowen Town back in August.

Boss Gary Hackett will carry out fitness checks on midfielder Brad Birch and defender Aris Christophorou before naming his starting eleven.

Stourbridge played well in defeat at Kettering on Tuesday night and whilst Kettering are now in the box seat, it's important that the Glassboys maintain the pressure on the league leaders by continuing to amass points.

The last time the Glassboys hosted Tamworth in a league game was back in the 1996/97 season. The Staffordshire side romped clear to win the Southern League Midland Division that particular campaign and they completed an early season double over the Glassboys with a 1 - 0 win at the Lamb Ground quickly backed up by a 2 - 1 victory at Stourbridge.

Since that time Tamworth have spent their time in the upper echelons of the non-league pyramid with stints in the Southern League Premier Division, the Conference North (National League North) and the top tier Conference (National League). A poor second half to last season saw them suffer relegation from the National League North and a return to step 3 of the non-league game with Tamworth subsequently placed in the newly created Evo-stik League South Premier Division Central.

A slow start to the current campaign, which included an FA Cup First Qualifying Round exit at the hands of fellow Staffordshire outfit Hednesford Town, saw Mike Fowler step aside from the manager's post in September and the Lambs subsequently appointed Dennis Greene in his place, who enjoyed success with Wycombe Wanderers as a player before moving into management with the likes of St Neots Town and Boston United.

Former Stourbridge favourites KRISTIAN GREEN and CHRIS LAIT are both with Tamworth after moving from Solihull Moors over the summer and since Greene arrived he has tweaked their side with the arrival of midfielder JOE MAGUNDA on dual registration from Leamington and left-sided defender JORDAN GOUGH and burly striker GREGG SMITH from Boston United. He has also drafted in 20-year old midfielder or attacker ZAC LILLY from AFC Telford on loan this week. Lilly has previously had loan spells with Sutton Coldfield Town and Rushall Olympic.

Tamworth currently sit 14th in the league standings with 19 points from 15 games played, partly as a result of drawing 7 of their matches so far, but they are unbeaten in five games in the Premier Division Central (2 wins and 3 draws) including a 4 - 1 win away at Bedworth on Tuesday night.

Their away record is actually better than their home record, despite now having a 3G pitch at the Lamb Ground. They have only lost once away in the league (compared to three times at home) and that was at St Ives on the opening day of the season. They have since won 2 and drawn 4 on their travels.

Their only blemish in the last month was an exit from the FA Trophy away at Marske United a fortnight ago where they lost 2 - 0 having done well to see off Gainsborough Trinity after a replay in the previous round.

That loss at Marske though ensured that the game at Stourbridge could go ahead as originally scheduled, so hopefully a good crowd will be in attendance for what will be an intriguing contest.

The Club look forward to welcoming Wolves Legends Kenny Hibbitt and John Richards to the game as part of the group attending from our match sponsors ALS. Thanks go to Mark Allen for his support of the occasion and the Club hope that he and all his guests enjoy a pleasant afternoon.

BIGGLESWADE GAME ON TUESDAY

Biggleswade Town have made it through to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy and they travel to Evesham United's ground this Sunday (25th Nov) to take on Gloucester City.

If that Trophy tie ends in a draw, this will mean that our visit to Biggleswade in the league on Tuesday night will be off, so look out for updates on this.
