With the depleted Glassboys missing the services of the injured Jack Wilson, Lee Vaughan, Reece King, Jason Cowley, Greg Mills, Harvey Portman and Josh Marsden, along with Reece Styche having been away on international duty with Gibraltar, boss Mark Yates was able to draft in two new signings to bolster the playing ranks ahead of tough fixtures this week at Tamworth and Royston Town.
Welcome @Ballerbarnes9
MATTHEW BARNES-HOMER has joined after being a player-coach at AFC Telford for the past few seasons. He left the Shropshire outfit last week after they parted ways with boss Gavin Cowan.
The 35-year-old is a striker that in his heyday was a prolific goalscorer for Kidderminster Harriers and Luton Town.
An impressive stint at Willenhall Town, which included a hat-trick here at the War Memorial Athletic Ground on his debut for the Lockmen in August 2006, later earned him a short-term deal with Wycombe Wanderers in March 2007.
The Dudley-born player then joined Kidderminster Harriers in the summer of 2007 and went on to be their top goalscorer in 2008/09. Similar form the following season attracted the interest of Luton Town and he joined them initially on loan in November 2009 before making the move permanent for a five-figure fee in January 2010. He top scored for Luton in the 2010/11 campaign, but fell out of favour with new manager Gary Brabin and after a loan spell with Rochdale, he left the Kenilworth Road club in January 2012 by mutual consent.
Following a stint in Sweden playing for Ostersunds, he returned to England and signed for Conference side Macclesfield Town in June 2012 and he was thrust into the limelight briefly in January 2013 when he netted two late goals to help Macclesfield beat Championship leaders Cardiff City in the FA Cup 3rd Round.
He joined Forest Green Rovers in August 2013 before moving to Cambridge United in January 2014, but later that season he was loaned out to Tamworth.
Following stints back at Macclesfield Town and with the likes of Aldershot Town, Farnborough, Kettering Town and Brackley Town, he linked up with AFC Telford in the summer of 2017 and was later added to the coaching staff working with fellow strikers such as Daniel Udoh and Marcus Dinanga.
Welcome to OSEBI ABADAKI
The 30-year-old is a pacey, direct left winger who joins from Barwell. He linked up with the Leicestershire outfit after being released by Matlock Town in July 2021.
He started out in the academy system at Blackburn Rovers before short spells followed at Altrincham and Stalybridge Celtic in their youth ranks. He then played for Ashton United before signing for Mossley in the summer of 2010.
The much-travelled player subsequently featured for the likes of Salford City, Nantwich Town (twice), Ramsbottom United and Buxton.
In the summer of 2017 he signed for Shaw Lane before switching to Stafford Rangers in September 2017. He linked up briefly with Hyde United in October 2018 before moving to Hednesford Town in November 2018. He then switched to Witton Albion in January 2019 for the remainder of the season before re-joining Hednesford for the 2019/20 campaign.
He left Keys Park in the summer of 2020 and after spending pre-season at Buxton, he signed for Matlock in September 2020 and featured for the Derbyshire club until the season was brought to an early finish.
