Gary Hackett again named several trialists in his squad with James Baldwin, James Hill, Jamie Insall and Nathan Hayward all starting after featuring at AFC Bridgnorth on Saturday, whilst former Stafford Rangers man Tyree Clarke made his first appearance in the starting line-up. And there was also an appearance up front late on for another trialist Tom Connolly. Meanwhile, Leon Broadhurst, Kayelden Brown and Chris Knight all played after not being part of the squad at Bridgnorth. There was also a welcome return to the red and white stripes for Louis Harris, who has not played since aggravating a knee problem at Matlock way back in October last season. Lewis Solly took the goalkeeper's jersey with Charlie Price on the bench.
James Baldwin opened the scoring for Stourbridge with 13 minutes played, turning his man on the halfway line before powering through on goal and lashing a shot past the home keeper.
However, Jamie Insall squandered the chance to double the lead as the interval approached, shooting wide of the right-hand upright from the penalty spot after Baldwin had been upended whilst trying to create space for a shot.
Baldwin was also involved in the second goal on the hour mark, nodding down Insall's cross at the far post for Sam Tye to sweep home from ten yards.
In truth the Glassboys might have had further goals. Both Insall and Brown were denied by fine saves during the first period, and a succession of late openings came to nothing with Tom Connolly and Drew Canavan both failing to find the target from good positions, and then Baldwin seeing his effort diverted onto the top of the bar and then over.
At the other end, Solly was rarely seriously troubled but did make one good save at the end of each half to preserve a clean sheet.
