Kick off was delayed following a medical incident and we are pleased to say that the spectator involved is stable, conscious and talking in hospital thanks to the amazing effort of all those who provided him with quick, life saving medical care.
We made a handful of changes to the side that beat Alvechurch with Jessy Bavanganga slotting into the backl four with Harvey Portman out injured and Jai Verma replacing Ethan Freemantle who was suspended. There were also call ups for Stourbridge Standard’s Jake Cooper and Joe Cunneen who were both named amongst the subs.
Our first opening would come through Jai Verma, who was excellent all afternoon, as he drove forwards before firing goalwards but his shot would rise over the bar.
We continued to look the better side in the opening stages when Alex Moore sent a brilliant ball forwards to Jourdain Masidi who would take on his player before finding Moore again but his effort was blocked.
Matlock’s first opportunity of note came when George Milner delivered a freekick deep into the area but Ollie Taylor was on hand to claim it before it could cause any danger.
We continued to threaten the Matlock goal with Toumani Sidibe forcing the keeper into a good block before the flag went up against Alex Bradley in the build up and Jordaan Brown headed wide from a corner.
Matlock had penalty shouts waved away as Jessy Bavanganga made a strong challenge in the box and we quickly had two efforts of our own as Verma saw an effort roll into the keepers arm before ouyr best effort of the game so far saw him strike the post as he smashed a shot across the face of goal.
Half Time: Stourbridge 0-0 Matlock Town
Matlock had the first opening of the first half as they had a powerful shot from inside the box but Joel Kettle was on hand to make an excellent block to prevent them opening the scoring.
It would be ALEX BRADLEY who opened the scoring after some good work by Verma set him up inside the box and he curled his shot past the keeper to give us a deserved lead.
Kettle was on hand to make another goal saving block on the line when Ekaluku broke free in the box and the follow up shot was hit well wide.
We had an opportunity to double our lead in the 60th minute when Sidibe was brought down in the box but Ravenhill was equal to Alex Bradley’s spot kick and he blasted the rebound over the bar.
A half chance presented itself to the visitors as Harry Wood hit a volley goalwards but Taylor saved comfortably.
We would double our lead in the 72nd minute when Bavanganga sent a cross deep into the box and TOUMANI SIDIBE was waiting at the back post to head home!
Our first change followed soon after when Souleyman Mandey replaced goalscorer Alex Bradley.
We had a couple of opportunities as the clock ticked down with Verma having a shot blocked before Moore’s effort rose well over the bar.
A double Glassboys change followed as Jai Verma and Jourdain Masidi were replaced by Callum Coyle and Elliott Durrell.
They nearly made an instant impact as Durrell drilled a cross low and hard into the box where Coyle was waiting but the keeper would claim it before we could get a shot off.
The third goal did come from an Durrell strike which was excellently saved by Ravenhill but he could only watch as it fell into TOUMANI SIDIBE’s path who calmly finished into an empty net to get our third and his second of the game.
