McDonald made four changes to the startin eleven with Harvey Portman returning at left back, Elliott Durrell returning to midfield and Callum Coyle and Toumani Sidibe making their first starts since joining the club.
After a change of ends, we got the game underway with the Glassboys attacking the church end and we’d have the first chance of the game as Durell beat his man before crossing into the box where Sidibe could only head just over the bar.
Sudbury would have the next opportunity when Myles Cowling would volley just wide of Ollie Taylor’s goal but the one way traffic would continue soon after with Alex Bradley doing well to bring it down inside the area before firing wide before Alex Moore would hit an effort narrowly wide.
Sudbury had a half chance to threaten our goal as Josh Allen broke free but Taylor collected it before the Sudbury man could get a shot off and we’d continue to assert our dominance as Jordaan Brown knocked a freekick down to Coyle but his shot was well over the target.
Joel Kettle made a crucial block to prevent Subury opening the scoring as a long ball forwards caught Taylor out but our skipper was on hand to clear off the line and nothing came from the corner which followed.
We continued to play some impressive football without creating too many clear cut chances against a resilient Sudbury back line but we would win a penalty in the 35th minute when Miro Pais was brought down in the area. ALEX BRADLEY would score from the spot to fire us into a deserved lead.
Our final chance of the first half came when Sidibe was brought down on the edge of the area as a quick break caught out the Sudbury defence. He dusted himself off to take the resulting freekick but he could only curl his effort over the bar.
Half time: Stourbridge 1-0 AFC Sudbury
We were forced into a change early on in the second half as Will Grewal-Pollard replaced Harvey Portman who picked up an ankle injury but we’d continue to overwhelm the visitors with the first chance falling to Sidibe after Coyle beat his man before crossing goalwads, but the keeper would claim his effort.
We’d get our reward soon after when Pais pulled out a beautiful turn to beat two defenders and crossed it dangerously into the box where Sidibe would claim the final touch which diverted it into the back of the Sudbury net to double our lead.
After Ethan Freemantle replaced Sidibe in the 73rd minute, We had another good opportunity to extend our lead from a corner, but Kettle’s header was narrowly over the bar.
Sudbury’s final chance of the game came twelve minutes from time as an excellent freekick was hit goalwards but Taylor was on hand to make an excellent save to keep his clean sheet intact.
We made our final three changes inside the final 10 minutes with Alex Prosser, Dom Lewis and Aaron Forde replacing Elliott Durrell, Alex Bradley and our sponsors man of the match, chosen by MINT Technology, Miro Pais.
Full time: Stourbridge 2-0 AFC Sudbury
A well earnt three points as we ensured we bounced back from last weekend’s defeat and ensured we made it nine points from our first four games, which sees us sitting in third place early on, just one point behind Redditch United who we face on Monday afternoon.
