Both teams came into the game on the back of FA Cup wins with Barwell beating Kidsgrove Athletic 2-0 whilst we ran out 5-0 winners against Black Country neighbours Dudley Town.
Liam McDonald named an unchanged eleven to start against Barwell whilst the bench was boosted by the return of Jai Verma who was back to fitness following injury.
The first chance fell to Barwell as Alex Moore was dispossessed on the edge of the area before the ball reached Hickey who could only fire well over Tyrese Warmington’s goal.
Miro Pais started the game brightly and was involved in our early attacks as his cross into the box found Ethan Freemantle who saw his shot blocked before he won a freekick which Alex Bradley stood over but he could only curl his effort over the crossbar. He also forced the keeper into a good stop with a powerful shot from just inside the area.
We were forced into an early change just before the 20th-minute mark when Moore picked up a knock and was replaced by Alex Prosser. He almost made an instant impact as he picked up the ball inside the area and fizzed a shot across the face of goal but it was off-target.
Warmington then sent us on our way as we looked to hit the visitors on the counterattack but the resulting cross evaded Freemantle who was waiting at the back post.
Fremantle was involved again soon after as Callum Coyle lifted a ball over the BArwell back line into his path but he was judged to have fouled the defender as he found himself through on goal before another cross from Pais found him at the back post but the keeper held his header.
The final chance of the first half fell to Alex Bradley when Freemantle cut it back to him inside the area but his effort was blocked well before Barwell cleared their lines.
Half Time: Stourbridge FC 0-0 Barwell FC
The first opportunity of the second half came our way as Scott McManus brought Freemantle down on the edge of the area but Bradley’s freekick hit the wall before being cleared.
Barwell would hit us on the counter soon after with Berry getting a powerful shot off but Warmington made a good save to deny them the opening goal.
Elliott Durell had a half chance when the ball was cleared as far as him on the edge of the area but his volley was saved well before Master tried his luck from distance but Warmington was more than equal to the ambitious effort.
A couple of Glassboys freekicks followed with Jordaan Brown heading across goal rather than testing the keeper before Freemantle found Coyle with a quick freekick but his cross was cleared before it could cause any problems in the box.
We made a double substitution with just over 20 minutes left on the clock with Jai Verma and Jourdain Masidi replacing Callum Coyle and Miro Pais.
Barwell also enjoyed some pressure as the clock ticked down with Warmington being forced into action to claim a freekick before Master saw a shot fly over the bar.
Our final two changes of the evening saw Ethan Freemantle and Alex Bradley replaced by Dom Lewis and Toumani Sidibe.
The final action came as Barwell thought they had broken through our back line to create a good goalscoring opportunity but the flag was raised before they could get a shot off.
