Gary Hackett was forced to make two changes from the team that drew with Rushall on Monday night. Chris Knight was unable to shake off the injury that forced his early substitution in that match, whilst Lee Chilton had to withdraw on the morning of the game for personal reasons. In their places came Louis Harris and Drew Canavan, with Leon Broadhurst slotting into Knight's left-back berth.
Meanwhile, there were places on the bench for teenagers Jacob Wedderburn and Louis Clifton, as well as former Youth Teamer Lewis McPike.
Stourbridge began brightly, and had the first chance on 4 minutes, with Chris Lait only able to lift the ball over the crossbar after Phil Barnes had misjudged Harris's cross.
But Buxton were soon into the game, and Lewis Solly was called into action twice in the space of a minutes to deny Liam Hardy and then Jamie Green. And it was Hardy, who scored three times in the games between the two sides last season, who broke the deadlock with 20 minutes played, scoring from the spot after being brought down by Dan Scarr.
Karl Hawley came close to levelling three minutes later after good work by Canavan, but saw his chipped effort drift wide of the post, before Solly was forced into another double burst of action, first parrying from Hardy again, and then tipping over from Chris Churchman.
The Glassboys were not out of the game, though, and brought themselves level four minutes from the break. Matt Dodd got behind the Bucks' defence down the right flank, and when he pulled the ball back from the by-line Lait was on hand to tap home.
Buxton absorbed this set-back and were ahead again on 54 minutes through Tom Beckley who took aim from 20 yards and saw his shot beat Solly with the aid of a slight deflection.
For a while, Stourbridge were unable to make much headway as Buxton sought to protect what they had, but a second equaliser eventually arrived on 70 minutes through Stuart Pierpoint. The Glassboys skipper was on hand at the far post to turn the ball home after Hawley had helped on Harris's cross.
And Stourbridge were in front for the first time in the game with 79 minutes played. Hawley was bundled over in the area by Glenn Belezika and picked the ball up himself to send Archer the wrong way from the spot.
Having gone ahead at a similar stage of Monday's match, Stourbridge were desperate not to slip up the same way again, but there was to be no late sting this time as consecutive away wins were recorded for the first time since October last year.
The result lifts Stourbridge into 10th place in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division table, on the back of seven points from the last three matches.
