The Glassboys welcome Barwell to the War Memorial Ground on Monday night for an Evo-Stik NPL fixture. Kick-off is at 7.45 pm.
The Leicestershire side have begun the season in mixed form, with three wins, three defeats and a single draw from their opening seven matches, and currently sit 11th in the Premier Division table, just one point and one place below Stourbridge.
Wins have come at home to Grantham Town (3-1) and away to Sutton Coldfield Town (5-1) and Mickleover Sports (3-1), whilst they have been defeated at Darlington (3-1), and at home to both Blyth Spartans (0-1) and most recently Salford City last Saturday (0-1).
The Glassboys have not enjoyed the best record against Barwell in the past few seasons. Last time out goals from Kayelden Brown and Brian Smikle put us ahead twice at Kirby Road, only for the home side to hit back twice to earn a 2-2 draw. The return fixture at Amblecote saw Stourbridge far from their best as the visitors emerged comfortable 2-0 winners.
Prior to that there were four Southern League meetings in 2001/12 and 2012/13, with two drawn and two ending in Barwell wins. The only bright spot for the Glassboys during that period was a 2-0 FA Cup Second Qualifying Round win at Barwell in October 2011, en route to our First Round Proper ties against Plymouth Argyle.
Barwell have enjoyed a memorable few seasons, winning consecutive promotions from the Midland Alliance in 2010, and then from the NPL Division 1 South the following year, both times as champions. Since then they have established themselves at Step 3 and narrowly missed out on a play-off play in the Southern League Premier Division in 2013, before being transferred to the NPL. Last season they finished 8th after a slow start, and will be hopeful of mounting another promotion challenge this time out.
