The Glassboys travel to Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night for an Evo-Stik League fixture. Kick-off is at 7.45 pm.
Fresh from toppling League leaders Blyth Spartans on Saturday afternoon, Stourbridge will need to be wary of the threat posed by the Rams, who currently languish at the opposite end of the table.
Ramsbottom are yet to win in the League this season, and have registered just two points from their opening nine matches. However, the weekend saw signs of a possible upturn in fortunes as the Lancashire club raced into a 3-0 half-time lead at Stamford, with new signing Sam Grimshaw scoring twice and laying on the third goal. It was not enough, though, as the home side fought back to earn a share of the points late on.
Ramsbottom’s only other point came in a 1-1 draw at Whitby Town, meaning that they have so far lost all four of their home fixtures, against Buxton (0-1), Hyde United (1-4), Frickley Athletic (0-2) and Sutton Coldfield Town (0-1).
That defeat to Sutton just over two weeks ago saw the only goal of the game netted by none other than the Glassboys’ latest recruit, Justin Richards.
The Rams have also suffered a First Qualifying Round FA Cup defeat at Buxton during the last couple of weeks, going down 2-1 at the Silverlands.
Last season was Ramsbottom’s first at Step 3 after securing promotion from Division 1 North via the play-offs. They finished in a creditable 17th place in the table, level on points with the Glassboys and behind us by just a solitary goal.
By a quirk of rearranged fixtures, the two teams met in consecutive matches in March, with away wins recorded in both games. Ramsbottom overcame an early Reece Hales strike at the War Memorial Ground to triumph 2-1 thanks to a quick-fire first half double from Vinny Mkendi and Jamie Rother, whilst the return game four days later saw Kayelden Brown net the only goal early in the piece.
