Benbow put Stour ahead on 36 minutes, left in space to get on the end of a ball that had last been played by a visiting player and he rounded Whitby keeper Shane Bland before stroking the ball into an empty net. The ref over-ruling his assistant who had flagged for offside.
It was a lead that might have been wiped away before half-time after Kristian Green conceded a spot-kick after tripping Dale Hopson inside the box, only for Matt Gould to save Matty Tymon's tame penalty with his legs to preserve the Glassboys' advantage.
Stourbridge grabbed a second goal with 17 minutes to play as Bland parried a fierce drive from Dan Scarr, only for Leon Broadhurst to tap in the loose ball, and it was enough to secure victory despite Adam Gell pulling a goal back for Whitby just three minutes later when Luke Bythway pursued a through ball down the middle and Gould raced from his goal to reach the ball first, however his hurried clearance fell to the feet of Gell and he had the speed of thought to send the ball back over the head of the stranded keeper and into the unguarded net.
The win lifts Stourbridge to 10th in the Premier Division table, just three points off the play-off places.
