Ryan Rowe hit four as the Glassboys bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Chesham by crushing Redditch United at the Valley Stadium.

After a quiet opening twenty minutes or so with neither side really able to assert themselves, the hosts were first to seriously threaten on 22 minutes as Edwin Ahenkorah cut in from the right flank and hit a low shot that took a touch off Nathan Bennett before rolling just past Dean Coleman’s right-hand post. Stourbridge hit back and two minutes later Rowe battled away on the right before pulling a low pass back into the path of Ben Billingham who blazed over from the corner of the box. The Glassboys opened the scoring though in the 25th minute when Aaron Drake delivered a long free-kick into the Redditch penalty area and Luke Benbow brought the ball under control superbly before turning past his marker and tucking the ball low past home keeper Sam Hornby. Seven minutes before the interval the visitors had the chance to double their lead after George Washbourne clipped a good pass into Rowe on the left-hand side of the area, however his low shot was blocked by Hornby at the expense of a corner. Gary Hackett’s men did not have long to wait for their second goal though as Redditch were unable to clear the ball away and the home defence was opened up again with Oliver combining with Leon Broadhurst to find Sean Geddes with room on the right-hand side of the box and he stood a ball up towards the far post where Rowe bravely headed home. Washbourne could have made it three in the 43rd minute as Benbow threaded a pass into his run into the left-hand side of the area, but he pulled his low shot wide of the far post.

Stourbridge continued to hold the upper hand after the re-start with Rowe hitting a shot straight at Hornby from just outside the box in the 52nd minute before he netted the Glassboys third goal two minutes later. Rowe collected a long kick downfield from Coleman on the left-hand side of the box and he held off Troy Larrissy-Hinds before twisting inside and striking an angled shot into the far corner of the net. Out of the blue Redditch pulled a goal back in the 69th minute as Ahenkorah stunned Coleman with a curling shot from the right that found the far top corner of the net and the hosts threatened again a minute later as Harry Austin drilled in a low 30-yard free-kick that Coleman got safely behind, however any hopes the home side had of a come-back were undone in the 73rd minute as Larrissy-Hinds missed his kick and that allowed Rowe to get away clear and he kept his head before slotting the ball low past Hornby for his hat-trick goal. Redditch might have reduced the arrears three minutes later though as Ahenkorah put sub Daniel Pitt through, but he shot tamely wide of Coleman’s left-hand upright and after that the Glassboys exposed the Reds back-line all too easily. In the 80th minute Oliver clipped the ball infield to find sub Roland Agbor in space on the edge of the box. He could have taken a shot himself, but elected to lay a pass off to Billingham on his outside, whose rather causal finish enabled Hornby to make a blocking save. A few minutes later a neat interchange between Broadhurst, Agbor and Rowe laid off a chance for Jordan Fitzpatrick and he tried a chip which Hornby got a hand to, to push the ball away, however the danger was not over and moments later Fitzpatrick was brought down by Leavi Oshungbure to win a penalty and Sean Geddes stepped forward to smack home his 6th goal of the season. Two minutes from time a clearance forward from Geddes allowed Rowe to out-pace Bains into the left-hand side of the area and he struck a rising shot beyond Hornby to make it six and just before the final whistle a 25-yard strike from Geddes forced Hornby into a parried save above his head and he then gathered the ball at the second attempt.
