MATCH PREVIEW

Stourbridge go in search of their first away win of the season this Saturday when the Glassboys make the journey east-wards to West Norfolk to take on KING'S LYNN TOWN, but a tough encounter is expected, despite the Linnets making a mixed start to the new campaign.

Stourbridge will be in red and white at King's Lynn and boss Gary Hackett has called up Louis Hall to the travelling party and also included new signing Chekaine Steele with Callum Powell set to miss out through injury.

The Glassboys will be keen to get back to winning ways after collecting only one point from their last two games and with Kettering Town blazing a trail at the top of the table.

Stourbridge sit 8th after 5 games, while King's Lynn Town are currently 19th with a record of won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their first five games. They suffered a 2-4 home defeat to Biggleswade Town on the opening day of the season and then went down 2- 1 at Kettering Town before bouncing back with a fine 1 - 0 win at Tamworth, however they have failed to build on that result since as they were held to a goal-less draw at home by St Neots Town last Saturday before being beaten 1 - 0 at Lowestoft Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

King's Lynn came within a whisker of winning promotion to step 2 of the non-league pyramid last season. They finished as runners-up to Hereford FC in the Southern League Premier Division, amassing 100 points from 46 league games, but still ending up 13 points behind the Bulls despite completing a league double over Peter Beadle's side.

After comfortably seeing off Weymouth in the play-off semi-final the Linnets hosted Slough Town in the Final on May Day Bank Holiday Monday. A crowd of 2,842 saw the home side lead on 26 minutes through Toby Hilliard, however Slough levelled matters near half-time and then with extra-time looking on the cards Manny Williams fired home an 89th minute winner to give the Berkshire outfit victory.

Boss Ian Culverhouse had already signalled his intention to leave King's Lynn Town at the end of the season whatever the outcome of the play-offs and he has since become the manager of Grantham Town.

In his place came Simon Clark. The 51-year-old played one season for the previous King’s Lynn club in 2005-06 under Tommy Taylor, after spells in the league at Peterborough and Lincoln City. Clark also has coaching experience with the Imps, Stamford and Worksop and more recently was working at Notts County and prior to that Charlton.

The Linnets lost the services of highly regarded defender Cameron Norman who joined Oxford United, while experienced striker Leon Mettam has headed to Spalding United.

King's Lynn Town were formed in time for the 2010-11 season after the old King's Lynn club was wound up in the High Court in December 2009. The new club was placed in the United Counties League Premier Division and were runners-up for two consecutive seasons with the latter finish sufficient for the Linnets to gain promotion to the NPL Division One South for 2012-13. They maintained their upward progress by finishing as champions at the first time of asking to reach step 3 of the non-league pyramid where they originally competed in the NPL Premier Division for two seasons before being switched to the Southern League Premier Division for 2015/16.

Stourbridge and King's Lynn Town last met in league action in the 2014-15 season after the Glassboys were moved over to the NPL Premier. The Linnets inflicted a first defeat of the season on Gary Hackett's side as the Glassboys went down to a 1 - 0 defeat at the Walks Stadium on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday.

The return encounter at the War Memorial Athletic Ground came in December 2014 and Stourbridge produced one of their better showings that season to run out 3 - 0 victors.

The two clubs have also met twice in the F A Trophy in recent seasons with King's Lynn coming out on top on both occasions. In between the two league meetings of 2014-15 Stourbridge returned to the Walks Stadium for a 2nd Qualifying Round tie and suffered late anguish as they fell to a 1 - 3 loss and then in October 2016 the Norfolk outfit came to Stourbridge for a 1st Qualifying Round tie and ran out 2 - 1 victors with the home side possibly distracted by their impending F A Cup 4th Qualifying Round tie at Whitehawk a week later.
