Niamh Returns!

Glassgirls Manager Mike Harris has pulled off one more transfer coup before the season’s end with the return of striker Niamh Deasy!

Niamh will need no introduction at all to Stourbridge supporters after scoring 25 goals last season as the Glassgirls earned their third successive promotion to reach tier three, a tally which also saw her carry off the Divisional Golden Boot Award at the FAWNL’s end of season Presentation Night.

Another eight goals this season – including two in the memorable 7-2 win against West Bromwich Albion at the War Memorial Ground in October – brought her total for Stourbridge to 33 from 46 appearances, before she opted to switch to the Baggies in November. However, Harris has now tempted Niamh to return ‘home’.

Niamh’s arrival is the second this week following on the heels of midfielder Macy Winters, who made her debut against Wolves in midweek after signing on loan from Rugby Borough until the end of the season.

With three matches to play, including tomorrow’s visit of Nottingham Forest, Stourbridge are still in need of points to ensure their safety, although the cushion to Huddersfield Town remains at seven points.

Niamh will be eligible and in contention to make her second ‘debut’ tomorrow, and says she is delighted to be back with the Glassgirls.

“It’s brilliant to be back, and I can’t wait to get out there again”, she says. “There are so many special memories at the War Memorial Ground.

“Stourbridge has a culture grounded in an identified sense of mission. Individual accomplishment and team success is something I’m passionate about. I’m so excited to return for the final push to maintain our status.”

For the manager, Niamh’s return is a welcome boost to the camp.

“It’s brilliant news for the camp to have Niamh back,” he told us. “She’s not just a very good footballer, a striker who has a habit of being in the right place at the right time and the ability to finish chances, but she’s also a big character to have around the group.

“It’s been a difficult time for everyone lately. We haven’t been getting the rewards for the massive effort the players have been putting in, and when confidence is low a dressing room can be a quiet place. Sometimes a new face or two can bring a fresh feel, especially when it’s someone who already knows the club like Niamh does."

Harris went on to focus on Sunday’s game and the task in hand.

“Forest are an exceptional team, we seem to be coming up against a few of them recently! We saw what they are capable of on the opening day of the season. But we will roll our sleeves up and try to make sure we get something out of the game.

“We’ve got that gap between us and Huddersfield, but as a squad the girls are determined that we do our job and pick up the points we need rather than sitting around hoping other results go for us.

“There’s a lot of pride in this group, a hell of a lot. They’ve given everything all season, and they’ve had to earn every point the hard way so far. If we’re still a tier three club a month from now, that’s a huge feather in all their caps.”
