Early goals in each half helped Grantham Town claim their third win of the current campaign over a floundering Stourbridge.

Having already won at the War Memorial Ground in the Integro League Cup 3rd Round in late January before defeating the Glassboys last month at home 2 - 1, the Lincolnshire visitors collected a 'league double' over Gary Hackett's men to maintain their own hopes for grabbing a play-off spot.

Stourbridge named the same starting eleven and five subs as from the Ilkeston game five days earlier.

A minutes silence was observed before kick-off for the victims of the Westminster attack in the week and then once the match got underway on a pleasant spring-like afternoon, it didn't take long for the visitors to make their mark. In the 3rd minute Matt Dodd lost possession cheaply to the working back Luke Shaw in a dangerous area and the Grantham man quickly fed Felipe Barcelos on the left-hand side of the area. Barcelos rolled the ball into the path of the bursting forward Ellis Storey and he squared the ball low across the face of the goal, where Luke Shaw converted, poking the ball over the line, having started the attack in the first place.

After that disappointing start, the home side slowly worked their way back into the match and they enjoyed rather the better of the play for the remainder of the half. In the 12th minute Benbow turned past Michael Hollingsworth before thumping in a shot that keeper Kieran Preston parried. Moments later the hosts were forced into an early change with Dodd being replaced by Luke Rodgers. This led to Archer being switched to the left and Jones moving across to the right flank. Three minutes later Stourbridge got back on level terms with Benbow beating a rooted Preston with a free-kick from 20 yards out. Benbow had the ball in the net again three minutes later, but the flag had already gone up for offside. In the 22nd minute a goal-kick from Gould was headed on by Benbow for Rodgers to gather and he sent over a deep cross from the left towards the far post area where Jones ballooned his shot over. Stourbridge went desperately close on 34 minutes as a long throw-in from Tonks on the left ran through to Jones at the back and his low shot had to be cleared off the line by Rhys Lewis.

Stourbridge needed to start the second period on the front-foot, but no, instead they found themselves behind again within two minutes of the re-start. Danny Meadows pushed the ball forward from the right-hand side of midfield for Lee Shaw to chase and he nipped in ahead of the onrushing Gould to turn the ball home under the keeper to the delight of the travelling support. A couple of minutes later Richard Sho-Silva took the place of the injured Liam Slade. The energetic Lincolnshire side pressed again in the 52nd minute with Luke Shaw cracking a shot goal-wards that Gould got safely behind. On the hour mark Digie replaced Green as the home side made their final change, but by now the momentum was more with the Gingerbreads. The contest grew more scrappy and the Grantham defence confidently repelled the increasingly desperate and ragged efforts of the hosts. Digie came closest to an equaliser with his downward header from a Tonks right-wing corner drawing a save from Preston.

The match somewhat petered out in the closing stages with Grantham happy with a job well done.

For Stourbridge, with three away matches to come now, points will have to be earned 'on the road' if the club are to stay in the play-off places - and it's not just the new players who will have to show their mettle in these games!
