The match proved to be a good work-out for Gary Hackett's man and a great test against opposition from a higher division ahead of next Saturday's big kick-off.
The game was played at a good tempo and the Glassboys played well in the opening half before the hosts stepped up a gear after the break and the visitors found the going harder in the second period.
Home custodian Jas Singh was called into action twice in the opening ten minutes. In the 6th minute Luke Benbow combined with Ben Billingham down the right before Benbow laid the ball back into the path of Sean Geddes and he drilled in a shot that was safely clutched by Singh. Two minutes later Billingham cut in from the right and he powered in a shot that was parried away by the keeper. Solihull hit back on 15 minutes with Darryl Knights having a free-kick saved by Dean Coleman on his line following a foul outside the box by Andre Francis. Stourbridge then had a good chance to take the lead when Will Richards battled to win possession and leave Drew Canavan in the clear, but he lifted his effort over the bar. Solihull striker Omar Bogle then went close for the hosts on two occasions. On the half-hour mark Bogle dribbled forward towards the Stourbridge box before feeding Knights on the left whose cross into the middle was chested down by Bogle and he struck a shot just past Coleman's left-hand post. Three minutes later Bogle curled a shot inches over Coleman's crossbar. Five minutes before the interval Geddes dispossessed Ryan Beswick and he advanced towards goal before hitting a low shot that beat Singh, but re-bounded off the base of the keeper's left-hand upright.
Solihull started the second-half brightly, however Stourbridge carved out the first opening as Billingham found Geddes, who was half stopped, but the ball broke to Richards on the right-hand side of the box and he hit a low angled shot that was blocked by Singh. The deadlock was finally broken in the 58th minute as Knights sent over a cross from the left which was controlled by sub Joel Grandison before he beat Coleman with a low shot. The hosts had the better of proceedings after that, but the Glassboys defended determinedly to prevent the hosts finding a second goal in the last half-hour.
