Despite some enterprising play by both sides, there were few troublesome moments for either keeper during the first period. Stourbridge came closest to breaking the deadlock shortly before the interval when a skimming shot from Sean Geddes was turned round the post by Alex Street in the home goal.
In truth the most significant moment of the half was a brief fracas in the home goalmouth following a Stourbridge corner, which resulted in bookings for both Kayelden Brown and the home side's Jason Lee and left a residue of niggle that was rarely far from the surface for the rest of the game.
Lynn came out strong in the second half and had already missed what looked a simple chance before taking the lead with little more than a minute played. George Thompson's chipped cross drifted over Dean Coleman's grasp and was tapped in at the far post by Michael Frew.
Stourbridge had the better of the territory from there on but a combination of poor final balls, solid defending and some timely interventions by Street kept real chances to a minimum. In a carbon copy of Geddes's earlier effort, Street was alert to tip an driven shot from Ben Billingham round the post late on, whilst the home side came even closer when a long-range effort rebounded off the crossbar into the hands of the relieved Coleman.
