Despite finishing the game with ten men, Stourbridge hung on for a deserved win and three points against their opponents from Yorkshire.

The Glassboys dominated large parts of the first half to establish a 2-0 interval lead, but after Chris Knight's red card led to the visitors halving the deficit from the penalty spot there were some anxious moments before the points were sealed.

There were few chances in the early stages of the game until Stourbridge forged ahead on 18 minutes through Reece Hales. Drew Canavan made a driving run from midfield before slipping the ball through to Hales in the inside right channel, and the on-loan Kidderminster Harriers striker made no mistake with a powerful first-time shot from 15 yards past Jamie Green in the Frickley goal.

Thereafter, the Glassboys made most of the running and were rewarded with a second goal on 31 minutes. Kyle Haynes' cross from the right was half-cleared by Simon Harrison but fell straight to Jordan Fitzpatrick who slammed it back past Green, again leaving the keeper helpless.

Stourbridge continued to hold the upper hand, with Dean Coleman rarely troubled, although Danny South might have done better with his header from a corner just before half-time, the ball drifting harmlessly wide of goal.

The second half saw more in the way of Frickley pressure, but the best chance fell to Hales on 50 minutes when the ball fell at his feet from a corner and his instinctive effort was blocked at close range by Green.

However, Stourbridge were made to regret not putting the game to bed after 73 minutes when a ball into the box from the left caused confusion between Coleman and his defence, leaving Gavin Allott seemingly set to score until he was bundled over by Knight. The referee had little hesitation in awarding a spot kick and the Glassboys' defender's dismissal was the inevitable consequence. Allott himself sent Coleman the wrong way from 12 yards.

The final 20 minutes saw increased pressure from Frickley, with Coleman comfortably dealing with several high balls, although on one occasion he was tempted off his line and ended up having to clear from some way out of his area.

At the other end both Kayelden Brown and Hales could not make the most of opportunities to wrap the game up, and there was a late scare for Stourbridge as Frickley appealed strongly for another penalty for handball by Paul McCone.
