The Glassboys slumped to a second League defeat in five days with a below par performance at the Silverlands.

Manager Gary Hackett recalled Leon Broadhurst to the starting line-up in place of Peter Till, but otherwise there were no changes from Tuesday's defeat at the hands of Barwell.

Stourbridge had the first effort on goal after 4 minutes. George Bowerman worked space in the area to get in a shot which Arron Jameson in the home goal clung onto at the second or third attempt. Buxton hit back on eight minutes when Dean Coleman was forced into an acrobatic save from a 20-yard snap shot.

The Glassboys were dealt a blow on ten minutes when Exodus Geohaghon sustained a head injury and, despite playing on briefly, had to be replaced by Andre Francis. A defensive reshuffle saw Chris Knight move into the centre alongside Paul McCone.

From there on the home side slowly took a grip of the game and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 25 minutes. Drew Canavan was dispossessed in midfield and Sean Tuton was put through one-on-one with Coleman. The Bucks' striker managed to evade Coleman's challenge and fire in past McCone on the line to put the home side ahead.

There was more bad news for Stourbridge on 29 minutes when a hamstring problem forced Jordan Fitzpatrick off to be replaced by Josh Morgan-Parker, and with a change of formation to 4-4-2, the Glassboys briefly threatened to work their way back into the game, without seriously troubling Jameson.

And it was no surprise when Buxton went further ahead just before the break with a simple goal for Liam Hardy who tapped home a low left-wing cross from 6 yards.

The scoreline didn't flatter the hosts, and the Glassboys' best hopes at the interval seemed to rest with the thickening fog bringing about an abandonment.

But Stourbridge upped the pace at the start of the second period to at last induce some hesitancy in the home defence. Broadhurst drove a shot well wide on 49 minutes, but a goal finally did come three minutes before the hour mark. A foul on Kayelden Brown just outside the penalty area gave Canavan the opportunity to curl a sumptuous free-kick right into the top corner to bring the Glassboys right back into the match.

For a spell, Stourbridge had the home side's back line creaking. Jameson produced a good block to deny Brown when he was through on goal on 65 minutes, and then Chris Knight rode a couple of tackles on 74 minutes before shooting inches wide.

That was the last chance Stourbridge were to have to get back on level terms, though, as Buxton effectively wrapped up the points just two minutes later. Ironically, it was Knight himself who was the unfortunate defender to miss his attempted clearance from an innocuous looking ball in from the left, leaving Hardy with another tap-in, this one a little more straightforward than the first.

Broadhurst had another shot just off target on 80 minutes, but it was the home side who had the last word, Lawrie Wilson emulating Canavan's feat by curling a free-kick of his own past Coleman deep into stoppage time to complete a miserable afternoon for the Glassboys.

Stourbridge: Coleman, Fitzpatrick (Morgan-Parker 29), Ramsey-Dickson, McCone, Geohaghon (Francis 10), Bowerman (Smikle 69), Haynes, Broadhurst, Brown, Canavan, Knight.

Unused substitute: Hill (gk).

Attendance: 268.
